Before You Go to Sand Bar Canggu: Peak Hours, Entry, and Tides

Sand Bar, at the beach end of Batu Bolong, only gets properly busy after 1am, once the other Canggu bars close, and the party can run until around 5am. Entry is no longer always free: Bali Untold (updated 20 August 2026) recorded an IDR 100,000 ticket that includes your first drink. Everything here was checked on 29 October 2026.

Seven things people usually miss

• Arriving at 10pm is too early. The Beat Bali (Canggu nightlife guide, updated October 2026) says the sand dance floor fills with commercial hip hop from around midnight until 4-5am, every night. Before that it is an ordinary beach bar.
• By day it is a different place. Honeycombers lists it as open daily from 6am. Mornings and afternoons are for coconuts, coffee and watching surfers.
• Prices. Cocktails start from IDR 100,000 according to Honeycombers (21 Best Bars in Canggu, 2026); the usual orders are Piña Colada, Tequila Sunrise and Mojito. Sand Bar publishes no official menu online, so tax and service cannot be confirmed. Budget for the roughly IDR 100,000 night entry too.
• Bring cash. Several visitor reviews on Google and Wanderlog say it is cash only. There are ATMs on Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong, but queuing at one at 2am is no fun.
• No official dress code. The dance floor is sand and the tide sometimes washes over your feet, so flip-flops or bare feet make more sense than good shoes.
• No published age limit. The legal age to buy alcohol is still 21; carry a passport copy or ID. Details in our article on the drinking and clubbing age in Bali.
• No table bookings. Just walk in. Bali Untold says it stays open even in the rain, so bring a plastic bag for your phone.

The downsides

Visitor reviews on Wanderlog describe the place as a bit run down, and if you want carefully built cocktails, this is not the spot. The music is remixed chart hits, not underground DJs. Between 10pm and 12:30am there is very little going on.

One warning about the sea

Batu Bolong Beach is dark at night and the current is strong at high tide. Do not swim after drinking, even if others do. Keep your phone in a closed pocket because the water can reach the dance area without warning.

• Night route: if your night starts at Old Man's or Luigi's Hot Pizza, Sand Bar is a short walk towards the beach.

Is Sand Bar free? It used to be. Bali Untold recorded an IDR 100,000 ticket including one drink on its writer's last visit; policy may vary by night.

Which night is busiest? According to The Beat Bali it is busy every night because it is where people go after other bars close, not because of one special event.

Can I just come for sunset? Yes. Wanderlog mentions an afternoon happy hour, but the times are not published; ask at the bar.
