Kyoka vs Ibu Susu Ubud: Which Cocktail Bar Should You Pick?

Pick Kyoka if you want a Japanese dinner with serious cocktails; pick Ibu Susu if you want cheaper drinks and a later night. Both belong to the same team (mixologist and co-owner Ketut), but Kyoka's September 2026 cocktail list runs IDR 145k-175k, while Ibu Susu's sits at IDR 125k-150k.

Kyoka: Japanese cocktails on Jl. Dewi Sita

Kyoka serves Kyoto home-style and modern Japanese food: yakitori, gyoza, sashimi, tonkotsu ramen. The cocktails lean on Japanese ingredients, such as Shiso & Shine (Tenjaku vodka, shiso leaf, passion fruit) at IDR 175k and the holiday Holy Matcha! at IDR 145k. Japanese gins like Hakuto Matsui cost IDR 175k, and there is a sake and Japanese whisky list. All prices carry 7% service and 10% tax.

Kyoka's June 2026 happy hour sheet lists cocktails at IDR 85k++, including the Kyoka Sour and Coconut Espresso Martini, but it does not print the hours. Honeycombers Bali (28 August 2026) says Kyoka cocktails start at IDR 110k; that is lower than the latest official menu, so trust the September list.

Ibu Susu: busier, open until midnight

Ibu Susu at Jl. Monkey Forest No. 22 opens 12pm-12am daily according to its website, an hour later than Kyoka. A Pandan Colada is IDR 125k and the Pomelo Smoke Negroni IDR 150k. An Instagram post shown on its site advertises happy hour 4pm-7pm with IDR 65k++ cocktails, while the June 2026 happy hour PDF lists IDR 85k++. Confirm the price at the table before ordering.

Which one suits you

• Dinner for two, into sake or Japanese gin: Kyoka.
• Drinks and conversation past 11pm: Ibu Susu.
• Tight budget: Ibu Susu, whose regular cocktails are IDR 20k-50k cheaper.

Kyoka's drawbacks: it closes at 11pm and feels more restaurant than bar, so it is a poor fit if you only want one drink during a full dinner service. Neither posts a dress code, and the legal age to buy alcohol in Indonesia is 21. The two are within walking distance of each other, so there is no need to ride a scooter between them. For quieter nights, try Whisper Cove or Pinstripe Bar.

Does Kyoka serve sake?

Yes. The September 2026 menu lists several sakes, from junmai to nigori, plus Japanese whisky. Coffee and tea are there for non-drinkers.

Do I need to book Kyoka?

For Friday and Saturday nights, book through the website. Other nights, walking in usually works.
