The Sayan House Sunset Bar, Ubud: Hours, Prices and Downsides

The Sunset Bar at The Sayan House opens from 4pm and takes no reservations: seats go to whoever arrives first, according to its Chope listing checked on 26 October 2026. If you are after sunset over the Sayan valley, arrive before 5pm, as Honeycombers advises in its Bali sunset bars list (updated 27 August 2026).

The Sayan House is at Jl. Raya Sayan No. 70, Ubud, and is best known as a Japanese-South American fusion restaurant. Its open-air bar at the jungle's edge ranked 18th in Tatler's "20 Best Bars, Tatler Best Indonesia 2026", published 9 April 2026, one of five Bali bars on that list alongside Ambar, Night Rooster, Potato Head and Segno.

The mood and the drinks

Tatler describes it as a forest-edge sunset bar with Japanese-influenced drinks. Honeycombers highlights South American-inspired cocktails and a sake selection. On the official site, the Hibiscus Margarita and Yuki Del Ron sit among the house "favorites". The music is not loud. This is a bar for talking and photographing the sky, not for partying.

What does it cost?

Chope gives a range of IDR 250,000-400,000 per person. The April 2026 drinks menu uploaded to Chope lists prices in thousands of rupiah, subject to 10% tax and 6% service. The official site now shows a drinks menu marked 09.26 (September 2026), but the file is image-based, so check per-glass prices on the menu itself before ordering. No dress code is published. Chope labels the drinks menu 21+, in line with the drinking age in Bali, so bring ID.

Compared with Sayan Valley Sunset Bar

On the same road, Sayan Valley Sunset Bar faces the Ayung River with cocktails at around IDR 150k. Pick The Sayan House if you want to stay on for fusion dinner or the Hakkoku omakase in the same compound. Pick Sayan Valley if you only want a drink or two and would rather not fight for a seat. For a covered sunset when the weather looks doubtful, the Copper Kitchen rooftop on Jl. Bisma is the safer bet.

Downsides to know

• The bar is open-air. Chope notes it may close in the rain with no alternative seating, and late October is already the seasonal changeover.
• No reservations means a scramble for seats before sunset. The main restaurant is often full too: the Chope slot checked showed "No seats available".
• Opening hours differ by source. The official site says 8am-10pm, while Chope lists the restaurant as 8am-8:30pm.

Safety tip: Jl. Raya Sayan winds along the edge of the valley and is dark after sunset. If you have been drinking, go home by hired car or ride-hailing, not on a scooter.
