Hidden Hotel Costs in Bali 2026: 21% Tax & Service, Deposits, Extra Beds & How to Read Voucher Prices

The room rate you see on screen is rarely the number you end up paying at the front desk. In Bali the gap can reach 20–30 percent once tax, service charge, deposits and small extras land on the folio. This guide breaks down every cost component of a Bali hotel stay in 2026 so your holiday budget does not collapse on the final morning.

21% Tax & Service Charge: Nett Rates versus “++”

This is surprise number one. Indonesian hotels typically charge around 10% local tax (PB1) plus a service charge of roughly 5–11%. Together they are written as “++”, “subject to 21% tax & service”, or “exclusive of tax”.

  • A nett rate is final. IDR 1,000,000 nett means IDR 1,000,000 on the bill, full stop.
  • A “++” rate excludes tax and service. IDR 1,000,000++ becomes roughly IDR 1,210,000.
  • Red flags: the words “from”, “per person” or “exclusive” buried in small print.
  • Always ask for the total amount payable for the whole stay, not just the nightly rate.

Incidental Deposits, Extra Beds & Additional Guests

  • An incidental deposit is taken at check-in to cover minibar, laundry and damage. The usual range is IDR 300,000–1,000,000 per night depending on the property class; private villas and five-star resorts may ask for more.
  • It is either a credit card hold (funds frozen, not charged) or cash. Cash is returned at check-out, while a card hold usually takes 7–14 working days to release depending on your bank.
  • An extra bed runs about IDR 150,000–500,000 per night in mid-range hotels and more in luxury resorts, where breakfast is usually bundled in.
  • Child policy: many Bali hotels let one child under 6 stay free (some extend it to 12) as long as they share the existing bed and use no extra bed.
  • Additional guests: a standard room is priced for two. A third person is charged even on a sofa bed, because the hotel counts breakfast and linen.

Breakfast, Minibar, Laundry & the Small Costs That Add Up

  • Room-only rates: buying breakfast on site usually costs IDR 90,000–250,000 per person per day in city hotels and can exceed IDR 350,000 at resorts. For a family of four across three nights the difference easily passes a million rupiah.
  • Late check-out and early check-in commonly cost around 50% of the room rate for a few extra hours, and 100% beyond late afternoon.
  • Laundry and minibar are billed per item and per bottle. Confirm whether the two daily bottles of water are complimentary.
  • Resort or facility fees appear at some resorts and villas in Uluwatu, Nusa Dua and Ubud, usually covering shuttles or yoga classes.
  • Airport transfers run IDR 250,000–600,000 one way depending on whether you are heading to Kuta, Ubud or Amed.
  • Parking is normally free at resorts but may be billed daily by downtown hotels.
  • The Bali foreign tourist levy of IDR 150,000 per person per visit is paid separately by foreign nationals through the official Love Bali portal. It is not a hotel charge, so do not be surprised when staff only ask to see the QR code.

A Worked Example & How to Read an AccessiaPass Voucher Price

Picture a room at IDR 1,000,000 per night marked “++21%”. Tax and service add roughly IDR 210,000, taking the total to about IDR 1,210,000 per night. Three nights means about IDR 3,630,000 before any extra bed or breakfast. A room advertised at IDR 1,100,000 nett is therefore cheaper, even though the headline number looks bigger.

  • Included in the voucher: the room rate for a stated number of nights and room type, tax and service when the voucher is stated as nett, and breakfast when the package says so.
  • Paid at the property: incidental deposit, extra bed, minibar consumption, laundry, spa, transport and late check-out.
  • Why nett is easier to budget: you lock one number up front, so the rest of your money can be planned entirely around food, tickets and transport.

Seven Questions to Ask Before You Pay

  • Is this rate nett or still “++”? What is the final total?
  • Is breakfast included, and for how many people?
  • How much is the incidental deposit per night, cash or card hold?
  • What does an extra bed cost, and up to what age do children stay free?
  • Is there a resort fee, facility fee or daily shuttle charge?
  • What is the cancellation and date-change policy?
  • How much are airport transfers and late check-out?

Bill shock almost always comes from one thing: a price that was never final. AccessiaPass hotel vouchers are built to lock in a nett rate from the start, so what you see is what you pay and the only thing left is a deposit you get back anyway. Compare your shortlist in Seminyak, Ubud, Nusa Dua or Uluwatu and secure your stay voucher with AccessiaPass before peak-season rates climb.
