Bali High Tides 25-31 October 2026: Which Beaches Are at Risk?

Bali's regional weather office (BBMKG Region III Denpasar) expects maximum high tides along the island's coast from 25 to 31 October 2026, with the highest water at Benoa on the nights of 27-29 October. The coasts named are southern Jembrana and Tabanan, Badung, Denpasar, Gianyar and southern Klungkung. In practice that covers almost every tourist beach in the south, from Canggu, Kuta and Sanur to Keramas.

Two events fall close together: the full moon on 26 October and the lunar perigee, when the Moon is nearest to Earth, on 29 October. BBMKG forecaster Diana Hikmah told NusaBali (22/10/2026) that tide times differ along each stretch of coast and the high water does not last all day. Strong wind or high waves at the same time would make it worse, although a maximum tide does not always come with big surf.

What it means for you on the beach

  • Night walks on 27-29 October: narrow or rocky beaches can almost disappear under water at high tide. Avoid walking the shoreline in the dark, especially with children.
  • Ground-floor beachfront rooms: ask reception whether the garden or beach path has flooded during past tidal surges, and keep luggage and electronics off the floor.
  • Boats and harbours: during a similar warning on 26-30 September, BBMKG listed harbour activity among the things affected. If you cross from Sanur to Nusa Penida around high tide, confirm the departure time with your operator the day before.
  • Check tide times: tables are on maritim.bmkg.go.id, the Info BMKG app and Instagram @bmkgbali.

The first rain has already caused incidents

Rain also returned this week. The BMKG forecast quoted by detikBali for Saturday 24 October 2026 showed light rain in Denpasar, Badung, Tabanan, Bangli and Karangasem.

  • On Friday night (23/10) around 8 pm, an irrigation channel in Riang Gede village, Penebel, Tabanan overflowed onto the road because a culvert was blocked with rubbish. A couple riding a scooter fell and the bike was swept into the channel. Both survived (NusaBali, 24/10).
  • The same day a kapok tree about 15 metres tall fell and briefly blocked a road in Tianyar village, Kubu, Karangasem, apparently in strong wind (detikBali).
  • A landslide at a housing estate in Kediri village, Tabanan damaged two houses and injured one person (Tabanan disaster agency via detikBali).

If you rent a scooter, remember that puddles on village roads can hide the current of an irrigation channel. Do not ride through standing water that is moving.

Other news that may change your plans

  • Mount Agung is closed to climbers from 21 October to 5 November 2026 on all routes because of the Pujawali ceremony at Pura Pasar Agung, Selat, Karangasem (detikBali, 19/10). Treks booked for those dates need to be moved. The closure applies only to Mount Agung.
  • Kelingking Beach, Nusa Penida: on Sunday (18/10) a foreign visitor was dragged about 15 metres out by a wave and rescued by a jetski guide, who said it was his second rescue there in two days. No-swimming signs are already up. On 24/10 the Klungkung government announced a permanent staircase worth Rp3.2 billion, funded by CSR money, because the current way down is risky.

If your room is on the ground floor right on the sand and you would rather skip the highest-tide nights, an AccessiaPass hotel voucher for 2-3 nights in Ubud or Sidemen is one temporary option.
