Kapas Waterfall is on Jalan Gunung Batur in Tamblang village, Kubutambahan district, Buleleng, and what most visitors see is a single fall dropping straight off a cliff, viewed from a metal deck above the valley. An on-site report by budayabali.com (July 2026) likens it to a white curtain or a tuft of cotton, which is what kapas means. Before you ride the Kubutambahan-Kintamani road to get here, there are seven things worth knowing.
1. Cars cannot get in
The lane to the parking spot is very small and narrow. Visitors must come by scooter. You park behind a local family's house, where there is also a large wantilan pavilion for resting. If you come by rental car with a driver, have the driver wait on the main road and ask locals whether there is an ojek to the parking area.
2. What you get is a view from above
From the parking area you go down a short, easy flight of steps. At the end is a viewing deck with a blue iron railing that juts out towards the cliff. From here the fall drops vertically through a green wall, with a dark green pool at the bottom.
3. Getting to the base is a separate, hard route
The path to the foot of the waterfall is not connected to the viewing deck. It starts elsewhere, is long, and the terrain is much tougher. That is why almost every visit ends at the deck. If you want to swim or stand under a waterfall, this is not the place; do not try to scramble down without a local guide.
4. No ticket price on record
The available sources do not mention an entry or parking fee (checked October 2026). Bring small notes for parking or a donation, and ask the family who owns the parking area.
5. Do not confuse it with Carat Waterfall
Tamblang also has Carat Waterfall, which an older ANTARA report describes as two tiers (about 15 and 4 metres) reached over a woven bamboo bridge. No source confirms whether Kapas and Carat are the same place or different ones. Ask locals and match what you find with the blue-railed deck.
6. Travel time
Tamblang sits on the road from Kubutambahan up to Kintamani. One travel blog puts it at about 45 minutes from Singaraja. From Lovina add roughly 20-30 minutes, and from Ubud via Kintamani we estimate around 2.5 hours each way. The Kintamani road is often misty in the afternoon, so plan to head back before dark.
7. Combine it with other Kubutambahan stops
One waterfall seen only from a deck is a short stop for such a long ride. Pair it with Pura Pucak Bukit Sinunggal in Tajun, the cyclist relief at Pura Meduwe Karang, then a soak at Air Sanih on the coast.

Come in the morning, when the northern sky is usually still clear. The valley is deep, and midday mist can hide the line of the waterfall from the deck.
