Bukit Buwung Waterfall in Tua village, Marga district, Tabanan, only opened to the public in March 2026. Entry is Rp15,000 for Indonesian visitors and Rp25,000 for foreigners, it is open 08:00-17:00 WITA, and it sits roughly one hour from Denpasar (figures from an on-site report by budayabali.com, September 2026; checked October 2026). What sets it apart: two waterfalls side by side in the same valley, each with a very different flow.
A half-day route from Denpasar
- 07:30 Leave Denpasar towards Sempidi, then climb to Marga. Go by scooter: the visitor who wrote about the site says there is no proper car park yet.
- Around 08:30 Arrive in Tua village. Because the site is new, the map pin may not be accurate yet. If in doubt, ask locals for the way to the Bukit Buwung waterfall.
- 08:40 Walk about 10 minutes from the parking spot. The path has been cleared and the stairs have safety railings, so you do not need proper hiking boots.
- 08:50-10:00 Time at the falls. One stream is strong and steep with a loud roar; next to it a narrow stream drops onto rocks. A natural pool forms below. The available source does not mention swimming rules, so ask at the ticket desk before getting in.
- 10:15 onwards Carry on within Marga district, for example to the Margarana Monument or a slow walk through Pinge tourism village. If you want another waterfall with a pool for swimming, Pengempu Waterfall in Cau Belayu is in the same area.
Why it is called Bukit Buwung
According to the Jero Mangku of Pura Panti Taman Beji, whose family owns the land, the name comes from a story about Kebo Iwa trying to build a hill here. Morning came before the work was done, so the hill was never finished. In Balinese, buwung means cancelled or unfinished. The land belongs to a family from Petiga village, but because it lies within Tua village, part of the income goes to Tua.
What to know before you go
- Facilities are basic. There is one small local shop near the falls for drinks and snacks; do not expect a restaurant or proper changing rooms.
- Cars are impractical. If you come as a group in a rented car, plan to park in the village and walk further, or rent scooters.
- Information is thin. So far there is only one detailed report, so prices and hours may change while the community is still setting things up.
- The budayabali writer suggests arriving late in the morning, when sunlight reaches the valley and the air is still fresh.
- Locals fish along the river, not in the pool under the falls. Respect that area.

Bring your own rubbish bag. The site is run with the village and has only been open a few months, so how clean it stays depends a lot on early visitors like you.
