Masjid Pantai Bali, Cupel (Jembrana): Afternoon Route from Denpasar

Masjid Pantai Bali, the name now used for Masjid Raudhatul Jannah in Banjar Rening, Cupel village, Negara district, stands right at the water's edge, and since 7 February 2026 it has a hajj training area with a 4 x 5 metre miniature Kaaba. It is about 100 km from Denpasar, or 2.5-3 hours along the Denpasar-Gilimanuk road, so the sensible plan is to leave around midday and stay for sunset.

What is there

According to ANTARA (7 February 2026), Indonesia's Hajj Fund Management Agency (BPKH) inaugurated a training area with a miniature Kaaba, the Maqam Ibrahim, a Safa-Marwa sa'i path, a jumrah stoning site, and a model of the Masjidil Haram. detikBali (1 March 2026) reports that the two-storey mosque holds 600-700 worshippers, uses carved gebyok doors and Balinese ornament, and stands on roughly one hectare of endowed land facing the coastal cliffs. The founding year of the original mosque differs by source: 1961 per detikBali, 1964 per ANTARA.

A realistic afternoon route

  • 12.00 Leave Denpasar or Canggu. The Tabanan-Antosari stretch often slows behind trucks and inter-island buses.
  • Around 14.00 A 20-30 minute break in Pekutatan or Medewi for a coconut and a stretch.
  • Around 15.00 Reach Negara town. Spend 45 minutes walking Kampung Loloan, the old Bugis-Malay quarter on the Ijo Gading river; it sets up the same story of Islam in west Bali.
  • 16.15 Drive to Cupel, roughly 15 minutes from the town centre.
  • 16.30-17.45 See the training area and the seaside courtyard. Do not photograph worshippers up close without asking.
  • Around 18.15 Sunset (October estimate). The Maghrib call to prayer comes at almost the same time, so make way for people arriving to pray.
  • 18.45 Dinner in Negara, then stay the night or drive back.

Downsides to know

As of March 2026 the minaret, sound system and lighting were still being finished, and no visiting hours or ticket had been announced. This is a working mosque, not a tourist park: there is no café, guide or visitor signage. For one afternoon you may spend 5-6 hours on the road in total, and the Gilimanuk road at night is dark and full of trucks. If you would rather not drive back in the dark, look for a stay voucher around Negara or Medewi on AccessiaPass.

If you have time the next morning, Baluk Rening Beach in the neighbouring village has gentler water for a dip than the cliff-lined shore in front of the mosque.

Before you go

  • Location: Banjar Rening, Cupel village, Negara, Jembrana. View on Google Maps
  • Ticket: no fee announced (checked October 2026). Bring a small donation.
  • Dress: modest, covering shoulders and knees. Women should bring a headscarf if they want to enter the prayer hall.
  • Timing: avoid Friday 11.30-13.30 WITA and prayer times if you are only looking around.
  • Booking: not needed for a normal visit. Groups wanting hajj practice should contact the mosque committee first.
  • Instagram: search on Instagram

The miniature Kaaba was built for religious practice, not as a photo prop. Taking pictures from the edge is fine; treating the area as a place of worship is what the committee expects.
