Lawar Kuwir Pan Sinar opens from 7am at Gang Cempaka No. 1, Jl. Kroya, Kesiman, East Denpasar, and according to RRI Denpasar's coverage (December 2024) the lawar often runs out before late afternoon. Plan it as breakfast or an early lunch, not dinner.

Kuwir is the Balinese word for Muscovy duck. Here the boiled duck is finely chopped, mixed with young jackfruit and toasted coconut, then kneaded with base genep, the full Balinese spice paste. The stall was started by Pan Sinar; RRI gives 1990 as the founding year, while several other sources say 1996. Either way, this alley warung has been a Denpasar reference for pork-free lawar for decades.

When to go

7am-10.30am: the safest window. Every dish is still available and seats are easy.
Lunchtime: busier; some side dishes may start running out.
Afternoon: risky. RRI lists opening until 8pm, but the Google Maps profile says it closes at 4pm and is closed on Saturdays. Treat Saturday as a day off until you have confirmed it yourself.

What it costs

According to RRI, one IDR 25k set includes white rice, lawar kuwir, crispy fried meat, young starfruit-leaf vegetables, peanuts, sambal matah, sate lilit, plus a bowl of jukut ares (banana-stem soup) or kuah gerang asam (sour duck broth). Another source lists IDR 30k, so budget IDR 25-35k (about US$2) per person. Two people with iced tea will spend roughly IDR 60-80k.

Getting there and parking

The warung sits inside a narrow alley. Scooters can ride in; cars should park on Jl. Kroya and walk. Keep small change for the parking attendant.
From Sanur it is about a 15-25 minute drive, depending on traffic.

Honest notes

The place is simple and cramped, with no air conditioning, and the seasoning is intense. The lawar uses no pork, but we found no halal certificate, and some Balinese lawar preparations include blood. If you avoid that, ask before ordering. RRI also mentions a branch at Jl. Tantular 99 in Renon; we could not confirm its current status, so make the Kroya alley your main target.
