The Lair Ubud: A Cocktail Bar Under Campuhan Bridge

The Lair is a cocktail bar beneath Campuhan Bridge in Ubud, hanging over the Wos River ravine; cocktails start at IDR 135,000 and it opens at 6pm (Honeycombers, updated September 2026). There's no big DJ or dance floor. It's a place for two or three slow drinks to the sound of the river.

The setting and the way down

The entrance is at road level, then you walk down lantern-lit stone steps to a deck above the gorge. The interior has a "primitive", Jumanji-style theme: low light, lots of plants, stone walls. Diner reviews on Chope describe the walk down the stairs as part of the experience.

What to order and what it costs

The menu comes as playing cards. According to NOW Bali, No. 3 is dark rum, Campari and lime; No. 10 is tequila, mango, agave and mint; the King card is "Old Bastard" with scotch and spiced rum. Honeycombers recommends No. 6, No. 10 and The Sun From Kintamani. There's food too, from patatas bravas and arancini to a 12-day dry-aged duck. Chope estimates IDR 250,000-400,000 per person with food.

Opening hours: sources disagree

Honeycombers (September 2026) says daily 6pm-11pm, Chope says 6pm-midnight, and a 2025 NOW Bali listing says Tuesday to Sunday. Message ahead if you're going on a Monday or after 10.30pm.

Who it suits less

Stair-only access makes it hard for wheelchair users, older visitors or anyone with a stroller. Groups wanting a party will be disappointed; Jalan Monkey Forest is better for that. Damp, dim stone steps feel different after three cocktails, so climb slowly and book your Grab from the top rather than waiting on the narrow bridge shoulder. Earlier in the day, the Campuhan Ridge Walk, which starts nearby, is a good stroll before dark.
