Entry to Tembok Barak Waterfall is Rp10,000 for Indonesian visitors and about Rp20,000 for foreigners, followed by a walk of roughly 700 m from the car park on Gang Cengkeh in Sambangan village. It is about a 15-minute drive from central Singaraja and around 30 minutes from Kalibukbuk in Lovina. "Barak" means red in Balinese, a nod to the reddish cliffs framing this waterfall of about 8 m. Locals also call it Lanting Grembyang.
A sensible morning timetable
- 07:30 leave Lovina. Drive through Singaraja, head south to Sambangan and follow signs to Gang Cengkeh.
- 08:00 park and buy tickets. The counter opens roughly 07:00-17:00 according to tourism listings; hours can shift, so avoid arriving late in the afternoon.
- 08:05-08:30 walk in. First along rice-field paths, then down a fairly steep staircase with a handrail on one side, then a stepless dirt track, and finally upstream along the riverbank. Visitors report 20-30 minutes each way.
- 08:30-09:30 photos and a rest under the red wall. Morning light is soft and there are few people.
- 10:00 climb back up. The return ascent is the hardest part, so keep some energy.
Since it is the same village, many people pair it with Aling-Aling Waterfall in Sambangan. The difference is clear: Aling-Aling is run for guided cliff jumps and natural slides, while Tembok Barak is set up for looking and photos.
Do not swim in the pool
On 25 April 2026 a visitor from Sleman drowned in the pool here, according to NusaBali and Bali Post. The village head said a similar incident happened in 2017. The pool is wide but deep, and the village has posted signs banning water activities. Sambangan village and the Buleleng tourism office then began reviewing how the site is managed, including possibly closing risky spots temporarily. Bali Post also noted that Tembok Barak is not yet an officially designated attraction under a regent's regulation; tickets are handled by a group under the village enterprise BUMDes Giri Amertha. If you do not know the terrain, hire a local guide.
Downsides to know
- The steps down are steep and slippery after rain. Not suitable for elderly visitors, toddlers who need carrying, or wheelchair users.
- Few facilities. A 2023 report by Tatkala noted no toilet at the falls and just one small stall at the ticket booth, so bring your own water.
- The waterfall is short. People come for the red rock wall, not the height.
- Weekends are busier; the Sukasada district website suggests Monday to Thursday.
- After heavy rain the riverside path can flood and the water turns murky. Wear hiking sandals or rubber-soled shoes, not flip-flops.

- Latest updates: search on Instagram to make sure the trail is not closed.
To leave at 07:30 without rushing, it is easiest to spend a night in Lovina or Singaraja, and AccessiaPass has hotel vouchers in that area worth comparing. You will also have time for Lovina Beach and a dolphin trip the next morning.
