Yeh Bulan Waterfall (often spelled Toya Bulan) is in Banjar Jehem Kelod, Jehem village, Tembuku district, Bangli, and reaching it means walking roughly 500 metres from the car park along the bank of the Melangit River. It opened to the public around late 2023, sits in the same village as Goa Raja Waterfall, and gets far fewer visitors.
How much is the entrance fee?
Sources disagree. When it first opened (IDN Times, December 2023; detikBali, November 2024) the managers only asked for a voluntary donation. detikBali's October 2025 list of Bangli waterfalls gives IDR 10,000-20,000, and one English-language guide records IDR 20,000 per person. No official written rate has been published (checked October 2026), so bring around IDR 20,000 in cash per person plus parking money.
Opening hours?
07:00-17:00 WITA, according to the manager speaking to detikBali. Because the path runs along the valley floor, aim to start walking back before 15:30, when light in the gorge fades quickly.
What is the path like?
From the ticket booth to the main fall is about 300 metres. This river walk is the only way in: river boulders, cliff walls and bamboo bridges over the narrow sections, with one shelter halfway. Some guides say 5-10 minutes on foot; if you are not used to wet rock, allow 15-20 minutes each way.
How many waterfalls are there?
Three. Two sit close to a natural pool, roughly 10 and 15 metres high according to detikBali, and a third drops into the river channel. The managers have also built a pool fed by a nearby spring.
Can you swim?
Yes, you can soak in the natural pool and the spring-fed pool; the water is cold. The main risk is rain upstream: the Melangit can rise fast and the riverbank rocks turn slippery. If the sky towards Kintamani is dark or the water turns brown, stay out of the river.
Is it suitable for older visitors and small children?
Not really for older visitors, wheelchair users or anyone with bad knees, since no part of the path is level. Agile children can manage if you hold them on the bamboo bridges. Wear hiking sandals or water shoes, not flip-flops.
When is it quietest?
Weekday mornings, roughly 08:00-10:00. The manager says foreign visitors (Japanese, Korean, Indian, European) started arriving in numbers from mid-2024, and hired cars tend to turn up towards midday after Goa Raja or Tukad Cepung. The dry season (June-September) makes the path safest; the end of the rainy season brings the strongest flow.
How far is it from Ubud, Denpasar or Lovina?
About 1 hour from Ubud via Bangli, 1.5-2 hours from Denpasar (detikBali puts it at about 120 minutes), and over 2.5 hours from Lovina via Kintamani. There is no public transport. Grab or Gojek may drop you off, but getting one back is close to impossible, so hire a driver or a scooter.
