If Tukad Cepung feels too crowded, continue a few minutes on to Undisan village in Tembuku district, Bangli. Tucked away in Banjar Undisan Kelod is Hidden Green Canyon—a narrow gorge whose cliff walls, blanketed in green moss, hem in the Tukad Tangkup river. At the end of the walk is Tangkup Waterfall (also known as Slau), a curtain of water about 25 metres high. Don’t confuse it with Green Canyon in Pangandaran, West Java: there are no boats, body rafting or tubing here—the adventure is pure trekking and river walking.
The Trek: Rice Fields, Coffee Gardens, Bamboo Bridge
- Getting there: about 1.5 hours’ drive from Denpasar or around 45 minutes from Ubud; the starting point is just a few minutes from Tukad Cepung Waterfall.
- The route: from the village you walk past rice fields, descend through coffee gardens, follow a footpath along the edge of the ravine and cross a bamboo bridge used by villagers.
- Duration: roughly 20–45 minutes each way depending on your starting point and trail conditions—plus a stretch of hopping over river rocks.
Fees, Guides & Facilities
- Management: Undisan has been an official tourism village since 2014 and was named among the top 50 in the Indonesian Tourism Village Awards (ADWI) 2022; the village offers treks through rice fields, rivers and hills.
- Fee: a small entrance charge—reported in 2024 as around IDR 5,000 for domestic visitors and IDR 10,000 for foreigners. Some older reviews describe entry as free.
- Guide: to avoid getting lost, it’s best to hire a local guide from the village or a local homestay.
- Facilities: very limited; don’t count on food stalls along the trail—bring your own supplies.
Safety & Etiquette
- River rocks are slippery and the dirt path climbs and dips; wear trekking sandals or shoes with good grip.
- Avoid visiting in the rainy season (roughly November–March) or after heavy rain, as water levels can rise quickly; the best time is a dry-season morning.
- The trail is less suitable for small children and people with knee problems.
- Locals consider the area sacred: dress modestly, behave respectfully and leave no rubbish.
- Bring drinking water, a waterproof pouch for your phone and a change of clothes if you plan to take a dip.
