Kemenuh Butterfly Park or Bali Bird Park? Pick by Time and Budget

An adult ticket to Kemenuh Butterfly Park costs about IDR 100,000 (children IDR 50,000), while Bali Bird Park in Singapadu charges foreign adults about IDR 385,000 at the gate, less if you buy online. Both sit in Sukawati district, Gianyar, roughly 20 minutes' drive apart. So the real question is not which is better, but how much time and money you have.

What you get at Kemenuh

The butterfly park in Kemenuh village is an outdoor netted enclosure with footpaths through flowering plants. According to The World Travel Guy blog (updated 2025), it holds hundreds of active butterflies, including more than a dozen Balinese species. What children remember most is the hatchery: cocoons are tended until they emerge, and visitors may hold giant stick insects from Borneo and Atlas moths, the largest moths in the world.

NOW! Bali notes that the cocoon house also keeps a moth locals call kupu-kupu barong, with a staff member on hand to explain each species. You can walk the whole park in 30-60 minutes. Butterflies are most active on sunny mornings.

What you get at Bali Bird Park

Bali Bird Park is far bigger: around 250 bird species, the endangered Bali starling, cenderawasih (New Guinea plumed birds), Komodo dragons and scheduled bird shows. Plan at least three to four hours. The collection is covered in our Bali Bird Park review.

The downsides of each

• Kemenuh: it is small. The same reviewer felt the ticket is on the high side for Bali given a visit of only 30-60 minutes. The main area is an open enclosure, so weather matters a lot.
• Bali Bird Park: the gate price is nearly four times Kemenuh's. Online tickets are cheaper, but pick the right category (domestic or international): under the ticket seller Pelago's terms, the wrong category means a surcharge at the gate.

Verdict: which one?

Choose Bali Bird Park if your children can walk for half a day, you enjoy bird photography, or you want to see Bali starlings and Komodo dragons in one place. If you are staying in Tabanan and only care about insects, Bali Butterfly Park in Wanasari has more bugs to hold, although the same reviewer says it needs renovation.
