Batur Aqua Ride rents water bikes on Lake Batur in Kedisan village for Rp100,000 per person per hour for Indonesian visitors and Rp550,000 for foreign tourists. It opened around February 2026 according to detikBali's report of 8 March 2026, and runs daily from 08:00 to 16:00 except on Nyepi. From Ubud, the sensible plan is to leave early and arrive as the ticket counter opens.
06:30 Fill the tank in Ubud
Don't leave refuelling until Kintamani. detikBali reported on 13 October 2026 a queue of about 200 metres at the petrol station on Jalan Raya Penelokan, and Pertalite there ran out around 13:30.
06:45-08:00 Ubud to Penelokan
Take the Tegallalang road, then Pujung towards Kintamani, roughly 40 km or 1-1.5 hours depending on traffic. At Penelokan there is a Kintamani retribution post in front of the Batur Geopark Museum. The fee is Rp25,000 for domestic tourists, Rp50,000 (about US$3) for foreign tourists and Rp10,000 for Bali ID holders, collected 08:00-17:00 according to Bangli's tourism office head (detikBali, 24 March 2026). Keep the ticket. For what changed on the Penelokan rim, see the October 2026 Penelokan viewpoint clean-up.
08:00-08:20 Down to Kedisan
The road from Penelokan to Kedisan drops steeply with tight bends. Use a low gear rather than riding the brakes. In Kedisan, follow Jalan Trunyan to the Batur Aqua Ride pier.
08:30-09:30 Pedalling on the lake
There are 15 single and 4 tandem water bikes. Life jackets are mandatory, and lockers and bottled water are provided. A guide who takes photos on your phone costs Rp10,000 extra. The bikes have no brakes; pedal backwards to stop or reverse. No eating, drinking or smoking on the water, and rides stop in heavy rain.
Why mornings: Hey Bali (30 March 2026) says the water is calmest early, while later in the day the wind from Mount Batur pushes riders to the left. On Sunday 8 March 2026 staff said guests had queued for about an hour around midday. Other downsides to weigh: the foreign price is five and a half times the local one, and a tour package on Tripadvisor says the activity is not recommended for people with back or heart problems.
09:45 After the ride
If you want more time on the water, C.Bali canoe trips also leave from Kedisan. Or drive back up to Penelokan for grilled tilapia at Warung Jowet before heading back to Ubud around 13:00.
