Canoeing Lake Batur with C.Bali, Kedisan: Rental Prices, Rules & Morning Tips

Lake Batur is at its best from the water, with the caldera walls all around, Mount Batur in front of you and only fishing boats for company. C.Bali Canoeing & Cycling in Kedisan village has rented canoes here since 2008, so you can paddle on your own instead of joining a group tour.

Canoes, Prices & What’s Included

The canoes are high-sided inflatables with backrests, designed to be stable and very hard to tip. Staff give a short briefing before you set off.

• Single canoe (ages 16+): Rp150,000 for 1 hour, Rp200,000 for 2 hours
• Tandem canoe (2 people): Rp200,000 for 1 hour, Rp250,000 for 2 hours
• Family canoe (2 adults + 1 child): Rp250,000 for 1 hour, Rp300,000 for 2 hours
• Life jacket, locker, waterproof phone holder, water refill and towel are included. Hats and flip-flops can be borrowed.
• You need to show an original photo ID. There is a refundable Rp200,000 cash deposit, or you can leave your ID or vehicle key. Payment is by cash, card or QRIS.

Rules & Tips on a Sacred Lake

• Life jackets must be worn at all times. The harbour police can issue fines.
• Dress modestly, covering shoulders to knees. No bikinis or tank tops.
• Keep 10 m away from fish farms, the shoreline and Kedisan pier. At Pura Jati, do not touch the temple or its statues.
• Wind can change suddenly between 12:00 and 14:00, so choose a morning session.
• At about 1,000 m above sea level it is cool, especially from May to October. Bring a light jacket and sunscreen.
• Children must be at least 4 and accompanied by an adult. Total capacity is only about 9 adults, so book ahead.

After paddling, you can cycle through the villages (bike hire Rp60,000–85,000 per day) or soak at Batur Natural Hot Spring, where C.Bali sells discounted tickets. You can also fit in the Mount Batur sunrise trek earlier that morning.

• Access: about 1–1.5 hours from Ubud and 2–2.5 hours from Kuta/Seminyak. A Kintamani area fee is charged before Penelokan (foreign adults Rp50,000).

• Hours & cost: generally open 09:00–17:00. Arrive before 17:00 to still get on the water. It closes for major ceremonies, so check Google Maps first. Canoe hire costs Rp150,000–300,000.
