Room types: the differences you will notice

• Deluxe (43 m²): garden or forest view, king or two singles, separate bathtub and shower, balcony. The best-value pick for two.
• Deluxe Ocean Balcony and Ocean Terrace (43 m²): same size, the difference is the sea view; the Terrace version has a wider terrace. Worth paying extra if you plan to spend afternoons in the room.
• Junior Suite (59 m²): separate sitting area, up to three guests. Sensible for a family with one child.
• Executive Suite (78 m²): separate living room and one king bed. Roughly double the Deluxe rate.
• Family Jacuzzi Loft Suite (about 130 m²): listed on some booking sites. The jacuzzi itself is not described, so ask for written confirmation before you pay.

Who it suits

Families with children aged 4-11. The Tree House Kids Club takes children aged 4-11 and has an indoor slide. There is also a kids' pool, the Clay Craft restaurant that doubles as a pottery school, and a cooking studio.

Couples who want a five-star resort without clifftop villa prices. Deluxe rates around a hundred-odd dollars are far below the clifftop resorts on the same peninsula. Who it does not suit

• People who want to walk to a beach or a cafe. The resort is not on the beach. In TravelOnline reviews, location gets the lowest score (88%), and several guests wrote that nothing is within walking distance.
• Anyone expecting a beach in front of the hotel. Beach access is through the resort's Roosterfish Beach Club at Pandawa Beach, about 20 minutes by shuttle. Ask for the shuttle schedule at check-in.
• Surfers who want to stay on the break. Balangan, Bingin and Padang Padang still need transport.

If your plans lean towards Pandawa, Melasti or GWK, the Ungasan location works in your favour. If your focus is sunset at Bingin and Uluwatu Temple, add up daily transport costs before comparing rates with hotels on the western side of the peninsula.
