Angklung River Camp Klungkung: Camping by the Unda River

Camping at Angklung River Camp in Akah village, Klungkung, costs Rp25k per person on weekdays and Rp35k per person at weekends if you bring your own tent (detikBali, 12 October 2026). No gear? A 4-person tent with mattress and lamp rents for about Rp250-300k.

The campsite is a grassy field right on the bank of the Tukad Unda river, opened in 2024 on former farmland leased by its manager, I Nengah Mudiana. It is about 35 km, or an hour's drive, from Denpasar, and Klungkung's official tourism account has promoted it. detikBali write-ups from November 2025 and October 2026 show it is still operating and busy every weekend. Checked 23 October 2026.

What do you get for Rp25-35k?

  • A grass area roughly three-quarters the size of a football pitch, enough for a dozen-plus tents and campervans.
  • Power sockets in the tent area, some fixed to tree trunks.
  • Shared bathrooms with sit-down toilets and showers; water is plentiful according to detikBali.
  • Firewood supplied by the manager for campfires. The price isn't published, so ask on arrival.
  • A folding ladder down to the river.

Visitors typically do campfires, grilled corn or barbecue, splash in the river when it runs clear, and morning yoga. Families and office groups use it a lot.

What tends to surprise people

  • A steep, narrow access road under two metres wide. Cars must pull over to pass, and the manager asks groups to enter two or three cars at a time with a five-minute gap. The gate is dark and not visible from the road, so use a map.
  • The river can change fast. Heavy rain in September 2025 made the Unda overflow and erode part of the site. After rain the water runs fast and brown; don't swim. Bali's wet season is expected from November-December, so check the BMKG rainy-season forecast before picking dates.
  • Heat and ants. It feels muggy even after rain, and ants can get into tents. Bring camphor or repellent, plus a pillow and blanket, as tent hire doesn't include them.
  • Busy weekends. Some campers play music from speakers into the night. Go Sunday night to Thursday for quiet, which is also cheaper.

FAQ

Can I come without a tent? Yes, hire one on site. Book ahead for Saturdays as numbers are limited.

Is it safe for kids? The grass area is flat, but the river is open and can rise suddenly. Watch children at the water's edge at all times.
