Camping & Glamping in Bali 2026: Best Spots, Gear Rental, Costs & Comfortable Alternatives

Bali offers two ways to sleep outdoors: cheap independent camping beside lakes and on clifftops, and glamping with hotel-grade facilities in the middle of the forest. This 2026 guide details real locations, costs, the best season, rules, gear rental, and when you are better off booking a comfortable hotel room instead.

Best Camping Spots in Bali (Names & Costs)

  • Bukit Asah Bugbug (Karangasem) — a grassy clifftop meadow facing the Indian Ocean, about 30 minutes from Candidasa. Entrance is around Rp5,000–10,000; a fully equipped tent (mattress, pillows, lamp, firewood) rents for around Rp300,000–340,000 per night. The sunrise is the main reason to come.
  • Lake Buyan shoreline (Buleleng) — grassy camping ground at roughly 1,200 metres above sea level. Area entry is about Rp10,000–20,000 for Indonesians and Rp20,000–30,000 for foreigners, plus a camping fee paid to the managers. Night temperatures can drop to 15–18°C.
  • Lake Tamblingan (Buleleng) — quieter and more sacred than Buyan, with many temples along its shore. You must report to the managers or local residents before pitching a tent; respect the sacred areas and keep the noise down.
  • Toya Bungkah, Kintamani (Bangli) — the trekking basecamp for Mount Batur, on the shore of Lake Batur. The Hiker’s Camp at Toya Devasya starts at around Rp270,000 per night, and several lakeside glamping options start from around Rp300,000. Sunrise trekking: area ticket Rp25,000–50,000, an official guide Rp350,000–500,000 per group of one to four people, or an open-trip package at Rp300,000–450,000 per person.
  • Bedugul / Bali Botanic Garden (Tabanan) — entrance Rp15,500 on weekdays and Rp25,500 on weekends and public holidays. Important note: this is a daytime garden, not a public campground, so use it for a picnic and then stay at accommodation around Bedugul.
  • Pandawa Beach, Kutuh (Badung) — often mistaken for a camping spot, but it opens 08:00–18:00 and offers no overnight area. Treat it as a daytime destination only.

Real Glamping in Bali & Price Ranges

  • Capella Ubud (Keliki, Gianyar) — 22 one-bedroom tents plus one lodge, each with a private pool. Ultra-luxury class, with tents starting at around USD 1,100 per night including breakfast and afternoon tea.
  • Sang Giri Mountain Glamping (Jatiluwih, Tabanan) — African safari-style tents at the edge of the rainforest, roughly 2 hours from the airport. From around Rp1.6–2.2 million per night.
  • Menjangan Dynasty Resort (Pejarakan, Buleleng) — 24 safari tents beside Banyuwedang Bay, close to West Bali National Park and the Menjangan Island dive sites. Five-star resort class and easy to combine with a diving package.
  • Bali Jungle Camping by Amerta Experience (Pupuan, Tabanan) — four wooden houses and four geodesic dome tents with a pool overlooking the valley. Note: it is in Tabanan, not in Ubud as it is often mislabelled.
  • Sarinbuana Eco Lodge (Tabanan) — an eco lodge on the slopes of Mount Batukaru; not a tent, but a forest experience with a proper bathroom. Roughly Rp1–3 million per night depending on the season.
  • Bali Silent Retreat (Penatahan, Tabanan) — a silent, phone-free option in the common areas, ideal if your goal is a detox rather than a campfire party.

Best Season, Gear Rental & Costs

  • The dry season (roughly May to September) is safest: clear skies, dry ground, and much better odds of a clean sunrise.
  • The rainy season (November to March) is risky: thunderstorms at altitude, slippery trails, and leaking tents. Consider postponing or switching to a hotel room.
  • Gear rental in Denpasar: tents for two to four people cost around Rp15,000–40,000 per day, larger tent packages Rp30,000–90,000, sleeping bags about Rp10,000, and mats, cook sets and folding chairs from Rp10,000. Example providers: Golden Avatar Outdoor (Denpasar) and Escape Camping Bali (Sanur Kaja, Denpasar).

Permits, Rules & Safety

  • Always report to the site managers or the village pecalang before pitching a tent, because much of Bali's land is under customary ownership.
  • Carry out all your rubbish. Light campfires only at permitted spots and never leave embers burning.
  • In Kintamani and Bedugul, seal your food away, because monkeys and stray dogs tear open bags quickly.
  • Check the weather forecast and the status of Mount Batur before you go, and never climb without an official guide.
  • Packing checklist: warm jacket, rain gear, headlamp with spare batteries, power bank, at least 3 litres of drinking water, first-aid kit, personal medication, grippy shoes, rubbish bags, and small-denomination cash.

When to Camp and When a Hotel Room Wins

  • Camping makes sense in the dry season, with an adult group, for one or two nights, when you genuinely want sunrise from your tent door.
  • A hotel makes more sense in the rainy season, when travelling with small children or older parents, or after the Batur trek when your body needs hot water and a real bed.
  • A favourite budget strategy: one night camping at Bukit Asah or Lake Buyan, then one night in a hotel to recover and shower properly.

Practical Info & Reservations

  • Search Google Maps using the pattern place name + village or regency, for example Bukit Asah Bugbug Karangasem or Danau Buyan Buleleng. Do not type the generic name alone, because many points share similar names.
  • Independent camping is usually walk-in: pay at the gate, then agree on your tent spot with the managers. On-site tent rental should be booked three days ahead for weekends.
  • Glamping must be reserved well in advance through the property's official website or a booking platform, because tent capacity is very limited.
  • See Bukit Asah on Google Maps
  • See Lake Buyan on Google Maps
  • See Toya Bungkah on Google Maps

Bali's outdoors is best enjoyed when you are not too exhausted to enjoy it. Plan your camping trip in the dry season, then lock in one night in a genuinely comfortable room as a counterweight, especially after coming down from Batur. Check AccessiaPass hotel vouchers to secure a room near Kintamani, Bedugul, Ubud or East Bali at a lighter price, so your adventure budget stays intact and your sleep stays decent.
