Jagasatru Waterfall, Karangasem: Donation, Melukat, Route

Jagasatru Waterfall in Banjar Dinas Pateh, Duda Timur village, Selat district, still has no fixed ticket: visitors pay a voluntary donation, which was still the case according to Bali Dalam Berita in October 2025. From the car park to the base you only walk down about 50-90 steps (different outlets count differently), roughly 5 minutes.

What you see

The water comes from three springs, Pateh, Ket-ket and Teben Belong, which join and drop from a forested cliff about 40 metres high according to IDN Times. Next to it is Pelukatan Sudamala, a purification area with several spouts, plus a large Brahma Catur Muka statue. Locals believe bathing here brings long life, so on Galungan, Kuningan and tilem kesanga the spouts are busy with worshippers (detikBali).

Facilities are better than you might expect for a village waterfall: two car parks (upper and lower), toilets, changing rooms, gazebos, a prayer area and a warung, according to IDN Times.

Honest verdict

Jagasatru works well as a one-hour stop on a Rendang-Selat drive, but it is too small to be a day trip on its own from Kuta or Canggu. From Denpasar it takes about 1.5 hours each way, and the village road climbs in tight bends, so brakes and clutch need to be in good shape. Visitor numbers are low (the Duda Timur village head told detikBali 10-20 people a day), so it is calm, but signage and guides on site are also minimal. If you only have time for one stop in Duda Timur, choose by purpose: Bukit Putung for the valley-to-sea panorama, Jagasatru for forest shade and melukat.

Not for anyone expecting a big swimming pool: the spouts are a place of worship. If you want to do melukat, bring a kamen, sash and canang offering, and follow the villagers on duty.

When to go and how to get there

  • Hours: 08:00-18:00 daily (IDN Times). Mornings are best, before afternoon rain makes the steps slippery.
  • Cost: donation; the Duda Timur tourism village profile on Jadesta lists "from Rp10,000". Bring Rp10,000-20,000 in cash (checked September 2026).
  • Avoid Balinese holy days if you want photos without a queue of worshippers.
  • Combine it with Bukit Putung in the same village, or Pura Pasar Agung on the slopes of Mount Agung.
  • Location: View on Google Maps
  • Latest conditions: search on Instagram

In the rainy season (roughly November-March) the flow is strongest, but the rocks at the base get slippery too; wear strapped hiking sandals, not flip-flops.
