Mount Adeng Hike, Baturiti: Start Times and Breaks

The Mount Adeng (Gunung Adeng) trail in Baturiti, Tabanan, is open 03.00-18.00 WITA and the conservation-area permit (Simaksi) costs Rp20,000 per person, according to detikBali (13 June 2026). There is one main trail with three rest posts, ending at Pura Pucak Adeng temple, and it is run by the Abang Lestari forest farmers group (KTH) with Banjar Abang in Baturiti village under a Ministry of Forestry licence.

Day plan from Denpasar or Ubud

  • 03.30: leave. Baturiti is roughly 1.5 hours via the Denpasar-Bedugul road when traffic is light (estimate).
  • 05.00: register at the KTH post: give your details, state your plan, pay the Rp20,000 permit. You must report back after descending.
  • 05.15-09.15: climb. Liputan6 (21 February 2024) puts it at about 4 hours at a relaxed pace because the trail is long. The three posts make natural breaks, about 10 minutes each.
  • 09.15-10.00: rest at the summit, Pura Pucak Adeng. This is an active temple: wear a sarong, do not climb the shrines, and women who are menstruating do not enter temple grounds under Balinese custom.
  • 10.00-13.00: descend. Liputan6 notes hikers have become separated from their group on the way down, so stay together and do not take unmarked forks.
  • 13.30: sign out, then lunch. Bakso Eso at Baturiti market is close and cheap.

The early start is not for sunrise; it is to be down before the afternoon rain that becomes frequent from November.

Before you go

  • Carry your rubbish down. The managers enforce this, so bring your own bag.
  • Rainy season. BMKG expects the wet season across Bali from November 2026 (BMKG forecast). The managers plan a gentler alternative trail for the wet season, a sign the main trail gets slippery. Wear long trousers and shoes with a good grip.
  • Starting point. detikBali places the managers in Banjar Abang, Baturiti village, while some travel sites say the hike starts from Angseri village. Ask for the current registration point before you set off.
  • Ceremonies can close the trail. Mountains with summit temples sometimes close for temple festivals, as Mount Agung did from 21 October to 5 November 2026 for a pujawali (detikBali). Confirm first.
  • Guides. The managers do not say one is required, but it is advisable on a first climb. General rules are in our article on hiking without a guide.

Who should skip it?

If you want open views like Batur, Adeng is not the one: available sources stress dense forest and the temple rather than vistas. It also does not suit small children or bad knees, since the round trip is about 7 hours. Its height differs between sources: 1,802 m according to the managers, 1,826 m according to Liputan6. Weekends can see about 100 hikers a day; weekdays are quieter. A shorter option in the same area is Mount Tapak.

To avoid a 03.30 start from the south, check AccessiaPass hotel vouchers for a stay near Bedugul the night before.
