Barely 3 km west of Bangli town, the village of Demulih keeps an open secret loved by locals: Bukit Demulih. The climb is short — just a 5–10 minute walk from the parking area — but the payoff is worth it: terraced rice fields, mist-filled valleys, and on a genuinely clear morning, the southern coastline faintly visible in the distance. With no gate and no ticket booth, the place still feels wonderfully unpolished.
Up to the Summit and the Viewing Tower
- The concrete and earth footpath climbs gently, safe for beginners and children alike.
- At the top stands a simple shelter or viewing tower for looking in every direction.
- To the east: the Bangli ridgeline with the silhouette of the Batur–Agung mountains on clear days.
- To the south: the rice terraces of Gianyar stepping down toward the coast.
Sunrise, Sunset, and a Small Waterfall
This hill draws visitors twice a day. Sunrise around 5:30–7:00 am brings a thin mist pooling in the valleys, while the late afternoon around 4:30–6:00 pm turns the rice fields golden. Pre-dawn temperatures can drop to roughly 18–20°C, so a light jacket is close to essential. On the way down, ask villagers for the footpath to the small waterfall on the stream below the village; the flow is strongest from the rainy season into the early dry months.
Route and Preparation
- About 1 hour 15 minutes from Denpasar; roughly 50 minutes north from Ubud.
- The village road is paved and wide enough for a small car; the final stretch is narrow, so a motorbike is more relaxed.
- Bring a torch or headlamp if you set off in the dark for sunrise — the path is unlit.
- Wear shoes with grippy soles; the ground can be slick after rain.
- There is no permanent warung at the top, so carry your own drinking water.
