Akar Cafe on Jl. Binaria, Kalibukbuk, is a small vegetarian café where mains run about Rp50,000-70,000 according to HappyCow reviews; a TripAdvisor reviewer put a pita pocket at no more than Rp35,000. A January 2026 TripAdvisor review shows it is still open. Five things people tend to miss:
- No meat or fish at all. The menu is falafel, hummus, Middle Eastern plates, spicy noodles, curries and salads, with vegan and gluten-free options. If your group wants grilled fish, go elsewhere.
- Hours differ between sources. Google lists 7 a.m.-10 p.m., HappyCow 9 a.m.-9 p.m. (checked October 2026). Between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. is safe.
- Portions are not large. The recurring HappyCow complaint: small portions for the price, and some call the falafel dry. The hummus gets more praise.
- It is tiny. Seats are by the street or next to a small stream; lunchtime fills up fast.
- The drinks get the most praise. Homemade milkshakes and ice cream, smoothies and vegan brownies.
Location and getting there
- View on Google Maps; on the same road that leads to Kalibukbuk beach.
- Walk in, no booking. Cash is smoothest, though cards are accepted according to HappyCow.

It works best as a second breakfast after a Lovina dolphin trip that leaves before dawn. For a pool and live music in the evening, Spice Beach Club is about five minutes away.
