Yellow Bridge, Nusa Ceningan: How to Cross Safely and Catch the Sunset

You can spot that bright yellow line from far away, cutting across the narrow channel between Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan. The Yellow Bridge, roughly 138 metres long and just 1.8 metres wide, is the only land link between the two islands in Klungkung Regency — and one of the most iconic sunset spots in the Nusa islands.

The “Bridge of Love” That Once Collapsed

This bright yellow painted steel structure replaced the older bridge that collapsed in 2016. After it was rebuilt, the crossing returned to normal service and locals had already nicknamed it the “Bridge of Love”. For safety, the operators limit how many vehicles cross at the same time, so do not be surprised if you are asked to wait your turn at either end.

How to Cross Safely

  • The bridge is for pedestrians and motorbikes only; cars cannot pass.
  • Ride slowly and in single file, and never stop abruptly mid-span for a photo.
  • Get off the bike if you want to shoot — the deck is narrow and clogs easily.
  • Follow the marshals or local residents when queues build up in the late afternoon.
  • Free and open 24 hours; bring a torch or use your phone light after dark.

What Waits on the Ceningan Side

Once you cross, Nusa Ceningan feels far quieter than Lembongan. Blue Lagoon offers a narrow inlet of deep blue water framed by limestone cliffs; Mahana Point draws crowds watching cliff jumps and the afternoon swell; and a handful of cliffside warungs make the most comfortable place to wait for the sun to drop. The best crossing windows are 07.00–09.00 while it is still empty, or 16.30–17.30 for sunset — and the bridge usually loosens up again after 18.30.

Practical Info & Booking

  • Location (Google Maps): View on Google Maps
  • Hours & tickets: open 24 hours, free, no booking.
  • Getting there: fast boat from Sanur Harbour to Nusa Lembongan (about 30–45 minutes), then rent a motorbike near the jetty — roughly IDR 70,000–100,000 per day — and ride 10–15 minutes to the bridge.
  • Alternative: walking from the Jungutbatu area takes considerably longer; local ojek riders wait near the jetty.

Sunset here is best when you are not racing the last boat back — an overnight in Lembongan or Sanur, booked with an AccessiaPass hotel voucher, makes the whole plan far calmer.
