Tibu Tanggang River, Jembrana: 6 Things Before You Swim

Banjar Tibu Tanggang is a hamlet at the northern tip of Penyaringan village, Mendoyo district, which detikBali (26 December 2025) describes as having a clear mountain-fed river with a gentle enough current for soaking, swimming and small jumps off rock ledges. That is almost everything on record. There is no official ticket, opening hours or registered operator, so think of it as a village river, not a managed attraction.

What people usually miss

• 1. No facilities. No source mentions toilets, changing rooms, food stalls or a ticket booth. Bring water, a towel and your own rubbish bag. The same report asks visitors not to litter and to respect villagers' daily routines.
• 2. October is deep in a long dry season. detikBali (2 October 2026) reported a clean-water crisis in Jembrana: in several places residents bathe and wash in rivers, river levels are dropping, and the disaster agency has trucked water to hamlets in Mendoyo. Pools may be shallow and you may share the river with locals bathing. Pick a spot away from them.
• 3. The rains arrive in December. Bali's climate station forecasts the wet season reaching Mendoyo in December 2026, when water levels can rise quickly. detikBali itself advises against visiting in the rainy season.
• 4. Morning or late afternoon. Mornings are fresh and empty; late afternoon light filters through the trees. Midday heat adds nothing.
• 5. Jump only after checking depth. In the dry months the same pool can be far shallower than it looks in social-media photos. Wade in and feel the bottom first.
• 6. Village dogs and rabies. Jembrana's agriculture office recorded 75 animal rabies cases up to September 2026, including emergency vaccination in Mendoyo. Keep away from dogs; if bitten, wash the wound with soap for 15 minutes and go to a puskesmas.

A note about the sea in the same village

Tembles Beach is also in Penyaringan. On 30 August 2026 a foreign visitor went missing while swimming there at night, and his body was later found at Air Kuning Beach. If you pair the river with the coast, do not swim in the sea after dark.

• Location: View on Google Maps. The pin is the Balai Banjar Tibu Tanggang community hall (plus code MPGG+3XV) in northern Penyaringan, not the river itself. From the hall, ask residents the way to the river.
