Bukit Lingga Klungkung: How to Get There, Entry Fee and Best Time

Bukit Lingga in the customary village of Dawan, Klungkung, is only 4-5 km from central Semarapura, a 10-15 minute drive. According to detikBali's report (18 April 2026), the road has been widened and paved with concrete all the way to a parking area near the temple. There is no tourism operator and no official fee has been published, so a visit is essentially free (checked October 2026).

Where is it and how long from Denpasar?

The hill is in Dawan district, east of Semarapura. From Denpasar it is about 31 km via the Prof. Ida Bagus Mantra bypass, roughly 50-60 minutes without traffic. From Padangbai it is about 12 km or 20 minutes, so it fits before or after a boat crossing.

How do I get there?

Start at the Puputan Klungkung Monument and drive east towards Padangbai. Before the crossroads with the statue of Ida I Dewa Agung Istri Kanya, turn left towards the Dawan district office, then follow the signs to Pura Bukit Lingga. If you miss the sign, ask locals. Cars and scooters can drive up to the parking area. There is effectively no public transport up the hill, so use a rented scooter or a driver.

How much is the entry fee?

As of April 2026 there was no ticket booth. Klungkung's tourism office said it is preparing a partnership with the customary village to develop the hill as a nature and religious site, so a fee could appear at any time. If staff are present, pay the posted rate. If you want to pair it with a managed temple, Pura Goa Lawah is in the same district.

What is there to see at the top?

The summit looks out over both mountains and sea. There are two temples, Pura Bukit Lingga and Pura Taman Beji, plus an old well that locals believe is several hundred years old. The temple festival (pujawali) at Pura Bukit Lingga is held every six Balinese months, on Umanis Medangsia. On that day Dawan residents pray at the summit, so give them space and do not photograph at close range.

What are the downsides?

The site is half abandoned. The road and lights are in, but the priest of Pura Puseh lan Desa Adat Dawan, I Ketut Mude Rana, told detikBali its potential as a spiritual destination is still untapped. A photo spot branded “romantic hill” that drew crowds before COVID-19 is now broken, and there are no managed visitor facilities. Do not count on a warung or toilet at the top, and bring your own water. If you are after a café with a view, this hill will feel empty.

When should I go and what should I bring?

Morning before 09:00 or late afternoon towards dusk, when it is not too hot. Street lights have been installed on the road, but bring a torch if you come down after dark. If you enter the temple grounds, wear a sarong and sash.
