Tukad Bindu is free: no ticket, no parking fee, and the area is open 24 hours. It sits on Jl. Turi in Kesiman, East Denpasar, about 15 minutes from Renon.
What exactly is Tukad Bindu?
A roughly 1.5 km stretch of riverbank that used to be a slum-like dumping spot. Residents started cleaning it in 2010 under the Clean River Programme, set up the Tukad Bindu Foundation on 22 March 2017 and opened it as a recreation area that year. On 9 June 2026 Indonesia's Environment Minister visited and called it a model of community-run river management; the approach is now being copied on at least four other river sections in Bali.
What can you do there?
- Jog or take an evening walk along the riverside path, then use the outdoor gym equipment.
- Get in the water: according to kumparan there are duck boats and inner tubes for hire. Kids have a playground with swings and slides.
- Sit in a bamboo gazebo with tipat cantok, rujak or es campur, usually around Rp10,000 a portion.
- Occasional community events, such as a fishing contest on 31 May 2026.
Can you rent a canoe?
We found no recent source mentioning canoe hire. What is documented is duck boats and tubes. Rental rates are not published, so ask on site.
When is the best time to go?
Late afternoon, from about 16:00 until dark, when it is cooler and the garden lights come on. Mornings are quieter and good for a run.
What are the downsides?
This is a neighbourhood park, not a major attraction: 45-60 minutes is enough, and visitors expecting a waterfall or crystal-clear water may be disappointed. Afternoons and weekends are busy with local families. After heavy rain the river rises and turns murky, so skip the water play. Supervision is by resident volunteers, not professional lifeguards.
