Long before Seminyak filled up with beach clubs and designer boutiques, The Oberoi Beach Resort, Bali was already sitting quietly at the end of Jalan Kayu Aya. Opened in the late 1970s under the name Kayu Aya, it is one of the oldest luxury properties on the island — and it still sets the benchmark for privacy in an increasingly crowded area.
Paras stone pavilions and walled garden villas
There are no high-rise blocks here. Instead you get low pavilions built like a Balinese village: paras stone walls, thatched roofs, and stone pathways winding between old frangipani trees. Each villa is enclosed by its own garden wall, so you can have breakfast or soak without anyone seeing you.
The beach, Kayu Bar and Frangipani
The resort has direct access to Seminyak Beach — walk through the garden and you are on the sand. The main pool faces the ocean, so an afternoon swim always ends with a sunset panorama. Kayu Bar on the beachfront is the favourite sunset spot, with sand under your feet, while the Frangipani restaurant serves Indonesian and Balinese cooking. On several evenings a week, the open stone amphitheatre in the middle of the garden hosts Balinese dance performances — one of the oldest traditions on the property.
Luxury Lanai or a villa with a private pool?
- Luxury Lanai: a garden room with an open sitting terrace, the most sensible choice for a 2–3 night stay. Roughly IDR 4–7 million per night depending on season.
- Luxury Villa / villa with private pool: garden walls, your own pool, ideal for honeymoons and anniversaries. Usually from around IDR 9 million per night upwards.
- Spa: traditional Balinese treatments in separate pavilions; book a day ahead, especially in July and August.
The mix of privacy, a beach at your doorstep and service honed over decades makes The Oberoi a classic pick for a honeymoon or wedding anniversary — far calmer than the newer resorts around Petitenget.
