Every Purnama Kapat, Jalan Raya Kapal in Mengwi, Badung — part of the main Denpasar–Gilimanuk route — briefly closes as thousands of tipat (rice cakes in woven coconut leaf) and bantal (sticky-rice snacks wrapped in young coconut leaf) fly through the air. This is Aci Tabuh Rah Pengangon, better known as Perang Tipat Bantal or Siat Tipat Bantal: a thanksgiving ritual of Desa Adat Kapal believed to date back to the 14th century and the time of Patih Kebo Iwa.

How the Ritual Unfolds & What It Means
The ceremony begins with a procession from Pura Sada to Pura Desa lan Puseh, followed by communal prayers. Then villagers — from children to the elderly — split into two groups facing each other and hurl tipat and bantal into the air. According to Bendesa Adat Kapal I Ketut Sudarsana, bantal symbolises purusa and tipat pradana; their meeting represents the source of life, fertility and the village’s wellbeing. In 2025 the village also held its first penjor contest along Jalan Raya Kapal, and on 3 July 2026 the tradition was turned into a stage work at the 48th Bali Arts Festival (Pesta Kesenian Bali XLVIII).
