Gianyar Night Market: Bali’s Most Local Late-Night Food Street

As soon as the sun goes down, Jalan Ngurah Rai in central Gianyar turns into a corridor of satay smoke and spice. Gianyar Night Market — locals call it Pasar Senggol — lines up right in front of Puri Agung Gianyar, about a 20–30 minute drive from Ubud. Dozens of stalls stand shoulder to shoulder, food prices are fixed (no haggling), and most of the people queuing are Gianyar residents.

Stalls You Should Not Miss

  • Babi guling — a plate of rice with roast pork, lawar, crackling skin and sambal; the culinary icon of Gianyar.
  • Nasi campur Bali and bebek betutu if you want a full, heavily spiced plate.
  • Serombotan — a Klungkung-style boiled vegetable salad with peanut sauce and spicy grated coconut.
  • Chicken satay, pork satay and bakso, grilled or assembled right in front of you.
  • Laklak (green rice pancakes with coconut and palm sugar) and an array of colourful jaja Bali sweets.
  • Es campur, es daluman (green grass jelly with coconut milk and palm sugar) and martabak for dessert.

Price Range and Cash

  • A plate of nasi campur or babi guling is usually around Rp20,000–Rp35,000.
  • Market snacks and drinks are typically around Rp5,000–Rp15,000.
  • With about Rp50,000 per person you can have a main dish plus snacks and a drink. Prices can change at any time.
  • Bring cash in small notes — many vendors do not take cards and QRIS is not always available.

Best Time, Parking and a Halal Note

  • Stalls get busy from around 17.00 and peak between 18.30 and 20.30; arrive before 21.00 while the choice is still complete.
  • Car and scooter parking is available nearby for about Rp5,000 and fills up fast; alternatively take a Gojek/Grab from Ubud.
  • Note for Muslim travellers: many stalls here sell babi guling and pork satay, and cooking equipment often sits side by side — choose stalls carefully and ask directly before ordering.
  • Come hungry, and walk one full lap before deciding which stall to eat at.
