Bali to Gili Trawangan & Lombok Fast Boat Guide 2026

Crossing to Gili Trawangan and Lombok sounds simple until you find dozens of operators with different harbours, durations and prices. This guide maps the routes that genuinely run in 2025–2026.

Harbour Map: Where You Leave and Where You Land

  • Padangbai (Karangasem) — the busiest harbour, the fastest crossing, the widest choice of operators. About 2–2.5 hours by road from Kuta.
  • Serangan (Denpasar) — only 20–40 minutes from Sanur or Nusa Dua, but a longer time at sea.
  • Sanur Harbour — a modern terminal open roughly 06:00–18:00, closed entirely on Nyepi, with luggage storage.
  • Amed (Karangasem) — the closest point to the Gilis, a 45–60 minute crossing, though the road trip can take 3 hours.
  • Benoa Harbour — mostly cruise ships and yachts; if your ticket says Benoa, double-check the check-in location.

On the Lombok side, boats usually dock at Gili Trawangan (the main jetty), Gili Air and Gili Meno via connecting boats, Bangsal as Lombok’s official Gili harbour, plus the quieter Teluk Nare/Teluk Kodek and Senggigi. Lembar is for the slow ferry only, not fast boats.

Fast Boat Operators Verified to Be Running

  • Eka Jaya Fast Ferry — Padangbai and Serangan to Gili Trawangan, Gili Air, Bangsal, Senggigi. Official one-way fare around IDR 650,000–685,000.
  • Gili Getaway — from Serangan, one daily loop via Nusa Penida and Senggigi. Around IDR 700,000, air-conditioned pick-up across South Bali, surfboards around IDR 100,000 per bag.
  • BlueWater Express — running since 2006, the only operator leaving from both Serangan and Padangbai.
  • Marina Srikandi — Serangan and Kedonganan to Gili Trawangan, Gili Air, Bangsal.
  • Wahana Virendra (Wahana Gili Ocean) — Padangbai to the Gilis and Teluk Nare, about 1 hour 30 minutes.
  • Scoot Fast Cruises — from Sanur with a stop at Nusa Lembongan; slower, but you get two islands.
  • Freebird Express — from Amed, the shortest crossing to the Gilis.
  • The official Padangbai timetable also lists Golden Queen, Wijaya Perkasa, D’Camel, Ostina and D’Prabu.

Prices, Durations and the Costs People Forget

  • Realistic durations: Padangbai–Gili Trawangan 1.5–2 hours, Amed–Gili 45–60 minutes, Serangan or Sanur to the Gilis 2.5–4 hours because of the stops.
  • One-way fares generally run around IDR 250,000–700,000 per person; return tickets are almost always cheaper.
  • Hotel transfers are often free only for Kuta, Seminyak and Ubud. Baggage is usually one suitcase plus a cabin bag; surfboards and bicycles cost extra.
  • Harbour retribution fees are paid in cash, around IDR 10,000 per person per jetty. Budget roughly IDR 40,000 cash for a round trip, including the exit levy on the Gilis.

Alternatives: The ASDP Ferry and Flying to Lombok

  • The ASDP ferry Padangbai–Lembar sails almost around the clock with roughly 1.5 hours between departures and a 4–5 hour crossing. Adult tickets around IDR 60,000, class I vehicles around IDR 80,000, booked online via Ferizy. The best option if you are bringing a car or motorbike.
  • Flights from Denpasar (DPS) to Lombok (LOP/BIZAM) take only 30–40 minutes in the air, served by carriers including Wings Air and TransNusa, but from BIZAM in Praya it is still a 1.5–2 hour drive to Bangsal. For Kuta Mandalika flying wins; for the Gilis, the fast boat stays the most efficient.

Seasons, Seasickness and Tickets Safe from Touts

  • Indonesia’s meteorology agency BMKG routinely warns of strong winds and high waves in the Bali and Lombok Straits during June–August, while December–February is peak rainy season and cyclone-seed territory. Check the marine forecast the day before.
  • Pick a morning departure because swell builds towards midday, and sit mid-ship on the lower deck — the most stable spot. Avoid the front rows.
  • Take motion-sickness medicine 30–60 minutes before departure, eat lightly, watch the horizon rather than your phone, and bring a dry bag.
  • Buy only through official channels — operator websites, harbour counters, major OTAs or your hotel concierge. Avoid transfers to personal bank accounts, match the vessel name and departure time, make sure your name is on the manifest, and never hand luggage to anyone without operator uniform.

Practical Info & Booking

Almost every fast boat to the Gilis leaves in the morning, so spending the night near the harbour makes far more sense than racing down from Ubud at four in the morning. Check AccessiaPass hotel vouchers for a night in Sanur, Serangan or Padangbai before your early departure — wake up calmly, have breakfast, walk to the jetty, and start your Gili holiday drama-free.
