Before Bali filled up with glass and concrete resorts, there was the Bali Hyatt — the island's first international hotel, opened in Sanur in 1973. After years of renovation, the property returned in 2019 as Hyatt Regency Bali with its greatest legacy intact: roughly nine hectares of tropical gardens designed by Made Wijaya, holding more than 500 plant species. Walking from the alang-alang thatched lobby down to the beach feels like passing through a tidied forest rather than crossing a hotel lawn.
Rooms and Atmosphere
The resort has more than 360 rooms in a modern Balinese style, facing either the gardens or the Indian Ocean. The buildings are low and spread out, with no towers, so the sounds you hear most are birds and rustling leaves. Standard rooms generally run around Rp2–4 million per night, climbing sharply in July and August and over the year-end holidays.
Facilities for Families
- Three swimming pools, including a family pool with a shallow section and one adults-only pool.
- A Kids Club with daily programmes, suited to toddlers through primary-school age.
- Shankha Spa with around 10 treatment villas, a sauna, steam room and yoga classes.
- Omang Omang, the signature restaurant serving Indonesian dishes and grilled seafood.
Location: Straight onto the Sanur Promenade
The resort's beach connects directly to the Sanur promenade — a flat pedestrian path running several kilometres with no vehicle traffic, ideal for a morning walk or a cycle towards Segara and Mertasari beaches. Sanur faces east, so the sun rises straight in front of the sand, and the water stays calm behind a sheltering barrier reef. Ngurah Rai Airport is about 30–45 minutes' drive away, while the fast boat harbour for Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan is only minutes from the resort.
