Ulu Petanu Waterfall Tegallalang: Entry Now Rp30,000

Entry to Ulu Petanu Waterfall in Kedisan village, Tegallalang, is now Rp30,000 per person (about US$2), according to Bali Holiday Secrets (updated 16 October 2026). In November 2024 budayabali.com still listed Rp20,000. Children under 10 go free, parking is included, and the cave costs an extra Rp10,000.

What Rp30,000 gets you

From the ticket booth across the road, about 90 concrete steps lead down into the Petanu river gorge. Along the same path you pass a "three taste" purification spring, spelled Tirta Waledan by budayabali and Tirta Waladewa by Bali Holiday Secrets, a stone path with koi ponds, a second fall and the old Muntig meditation cave. The main fall is about 15 metres high with a pool you can swim in. Locals also call it Bayad Waterfall; maps may show two pins, so pick the one labelled Ulu Petanu.

The downsides

• Climbing back up the 90 steps is tiring for older visitors, and the path near the cave can be muddy.
• In the rainy season (November-March) the water often turns brown and the current gets stronger; skip swimming after heavy rain.
• This area has a local taxi zone. Grab/Gojek can drop you off but often cannot pick you up, so come by scooter or with a driver who waits.
• A sarong is required if you want to join the purification ritual.

Hours and Location

• Hours: 06.00-17.00, last entry around 16.30. Quietest 08.30-10.30, before tour groups arrive after 11.00.
• Location: Kedisan, Tegallalang, about 25-30 minutes from central Ubud and 10 minutes from the Tegallalang Rice Terrace; easy to combine with Gunung Kawi Sebatu Temple. View on Google Maps
