Tauch Terminal Tulamben vs Siddhartha Kubu: Which to Book?

If your main goal is diving the USAT Liberty wreck, Tauch Terminal Resort Tulamben wins on distance: the resort is roughly 80-100 m from the Liberty entry point, while Siddhartha Oceanfront Resort in Kubu is about 3 km away. The real differences are atmosphere, price and how often you want to be in the water.

Tauch Terminal Resort Tulamben: a divers' base

Tauch Terminal Bali has been operating since 1994, and the Tulamben resort has 26 units, all facing the sea (one studio has only a partial view). There are two pools, an SSI dive centre, a spa, a beach bar and the Bamboo restaurant, open 7.30am-10pm per its website.

Official rates run from April 2026 to March 2027 and include breakfast:

  • Summer season (1 Apr-31 Oct): Seaview Superior double €85, Seaview Bungalow double €90, 40 m² Seaview Deluxe double €125, Liberty Suite €155, two-room Family Suite €200.
  • Winter season (1 Nov-31 Mar): Superior double €75, Bungalow double €80, Deluxe double €105, Family Suite €170.
  • Diving: 2 dives €75, 4 dives €138, including guide, tank and weights. Nitrox is free at all Tulamben sites.
  • Free for guests: bikes, kayaks, SUP, snorkel gear, an ice bath, and seaside yoga on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.
  • Airport transfer to Tulamben: €80 per car for 1-4 people.

Until 15 January 2027, cancellation is free up to 24 hours before check-in, according to the official homepage.

The downsides are clear. The beach is black pebbles, not sand, so it is poor for sunbathing or small children. The resort itself describes its rooms as whitewashed antique Balinese style, so do not expect the modern look of a new resort. Nearly everything revolves around diving, so evenings are quiet.

Siddhartha Oceanfront Resort: more resort, farther from the Liberty

Siddhartha Oceanfront Resort & Spa in Kubu has around 30 freestanding bungalows and two oceanfront private-pool villas. It runs its own dive centre, the Six Elements Spa, an open-air restaurant and a house reef right off the beach. The design is more polished and it feels like a holiday resort.

The trade-off: to dive the Liberty you need a drive of about 3 km. Siddhartha does not publish a fixed rate sheet; Tripadvisor shows rooms from about AU$139 a night (checked October 2026), so compare for your exact dates.

At a glance

  • Distance to the Liberty: Tauch Terminal 80-100 m, Siddhartha about 3 km.
  • Double room with breakfast: Tauch Terminal €75-125 depending on season and type; Siddhartha varies by booking channel, from about AU$139 on Tripadvisor.
  • Atmosphere: Tauch Terminal is busy with divers and practical; Siddhartha is calmer and more designed.
  • Beach: both sit on the black-stone coast of north Karangasem.

The verdict

Choose Tauch Terminal if you are coming for 3-4 dives a day, want to walk to the USS Liberty before the day-trip groups arrive, or are taking a certified dive course. Choose Siddhartha if diving is one activity among several, you are travelling as a couple, and you value the bungalows and spa more than walking distance. If you also want a seaside resort elsewhere in Bali before or after Tulamben, check your dates with an AccessiaPass hotel voucher.
