Pura Gunung Kawi Sebatu: A Serene Water Temple in Tegallalang

Tucked away in Sebatu village, Tegallalang, about 20 minutes north of Ubud and near Tampaksiring, Pura Gunung Kawi Sebatu is a Hindu petirtaan, or water temple, radiating calm. Don't be mistaken: this is not the rock-cut Gunung Kawi site at Tampaksiring, but a holy-spring temple surrounded by lush ornamental gardens. Its tucked-away location makes it far quieter than Tirta Empul, so the atmosphere feels more devotional and intimate.

Atmosphere & Highlights

As you enter, you are greeted by clear ponds full of koi, a gently flowing holy spring, and bathing pools (beji) where locals perform purification rituals. The temple buildings carry beautiful stone carvings, framed by tropical trees and flowers that keep the air cool. The trickle of water and birdsong add to the serenity, while the neatly tended gardens make an enchanting backdrop for photos. Being less crowded, it is perfect for reflection, prayer, and photography without the jostle.
