Pondok Sari Beach Resort & Spa sits on Pemuteran Bay, roughly a 3-hour drive from Ngurah Rai Airport according to its own website, with the Biorock reef right in front of its beach. If your plan is snorkelling, diving at Menjangan and sleeping in a bungalow full of antique carved wood, it belongs on your shortlist. If you want a private pool and big-hotel facilities, read the downsides first.
Room types
The official site (checked September 2026) lists four main categories plus two family villas:
- Standard: double bungalows (one building split into two units), queen bed, air conditioning, private porch, semi-open Balinese bathroom. The site says they are closer to an international "Superior".
- Deluxe Bungalow: two storeys, 68 m² in total, antique carved doors and wall panels. Air-conditioned bedroom downstairs, covered terrace with a netted daybed upstairs. Fridge and safe.
- Family Deluxe: single storey with a private garden and pavilion, for families with up to 2 children (2 extra beds), bathtub.
- Villa Wayang: 190 m², three bedrooms, two bathrooms, private lotus pond with a spa pool.
- Villa Dalang: a three-bedroom Javanese joglo, each bedroom en suite, pantry with fridge and microwave.
Rates are not published on the official site; you book through its Book Now button. Hotel comparison sites show "from" prices of about US$60-80 per night for the cheapest room on quiet dates, with the villas well above that. Treat this as a rough guide and check your own dates.
Diving, spa and dining
The in-house dive centre, Karang Divers, sits on the resort beach and teaches to SSI and PADI standards. You can shore-dive the house reef and the Biorock coral garden, or take one of their four boats to nearby sites and Menjangan Island. The spa menu (June 2025 version) lists treatments at roughly IDR 110,000-290,000 before 21% tax and service. The open-air restaurant faces the beach, and on some nights there is a set menu with a Balinese dance performance by a local village troupe.
Who it doesn't suit
- Light sleepers. Standard rooms are double bungalows; some guest reviews call them small and mention roosters, the call to prayer or building work next door at night.
- Private-pool hunters. Only Villa Wayang has its own spa pool. Everyone else shares the resort pool.
- Short 2-3 night trips. About 3 hours each way from the airport eats a lot of your time.
- White-sand beach lovers. Pemuteran's beach is dark sand; the draw is underwater, not the sand.
Good fit: divers, small families who like shady gardens, and guests who value antique wooden interiors. For a same-area comparison with a more classic resort feel, see Matahari Beach Resort Pemuteran. Before booking direct, it is worth comparing north Bali stay vouchers on AccessiaPass too.
