Song Tepo Beach, Nusa Ceningan: 7 Things Before You Go

Song Tepo Beach has no ticket booth of its own, but foreign visitors still pay the Nusa Penida area fee of Rp25,000 (Rp15,000 for children aged 4-13), in force since 1 September 2026 under Klungkung Regional Regulation No. 4 of 2026. The beach sits on the Nusa Ceningan side, about 500 metres south of the Yellow Bridge, facing the narrow channel to Lembongan that is lined with seaweed plots.

7 things to know before you go

  • 1. Check the tide table first. Song Tepo is a tidal beach. At low tide the seabed is exposed and the swings and hammocks on the sand work for photos. At high tide the sand almost disappears under water.
  • 2. It is not a swimming beach. The water is shallow, the bottom is muddy sand, and it sits among farming plots. For a swim, use the pool of a café on the channel.
  • 3. Do not walk on the seaweed plots. They belong to farmers. According to Bali Express (October 2025), the number of seaweed farmers here has shrunk from about 950 to about 200, so the green fields are not as dense as in older photos.
  • 4. Pay the area fee, not twice here. The Klungkung fee is separate from Bali's Rp150,000 foreign tourist levy. Details are in our article on the 2026 Nusa Penida entry fee. Other paid attractions on the islands now collect their own tickets under the one-gate system (OGOD), but Song Tepo is not one of them (checked October 2026).
  • 5. Cross the Yellow Bridge by scooter or on foot. The bridge is about 1.8 metres wide and only for scooters and pedestrians. Two Dutch tourists fell from it on 24 October 2025, and it was repaired at the end of November 2025. Crossing tips are in our Yellow Bridge Nusa Ceningan guide.
  • 6. Pick your hour. Mornings are quietest. From 16:00 to 18:00 people gather to watch the sunset over the channel.
  • 7. Do not expect a spotless beach. Repeated reviews mention muddy sand and old farming rope. On Trip.com it scores just 1.9 from 8 reviews, while on Google it averages about 4.4 from 59 reviews, mostly praising the sunset.

Getting there and location details

  • Location: Banjar Ceningan Kawan, Nusa Ceningan, Klungkung. View on Google Maps
  • Access: fast boat from Sanur to Lembongan, then about 10 minutes by scooter from Jungutbatu or Mushroom Bay, over the Yellow Bridge.
  • Fees: no beach ticket; the area fee for foreigners is Rp25,000 per adult and Rp15,000 per child.
  • Parking: scooters park by the road or at nearby cafés, usually if you buy a drink.
  • Instagram: search on Instagram to see recent tide conditions.

One more thing: on 8 October 2026 the BMKG weather agency warned of waves up to 6 metres in parts of Bali's waters. The Song Tepo channel itself is sheltered, but fast boat schedules to Lembongan can change, so check the operator's notices the day before.
