Entry to Hutan Pinus Glagalinggah Lestari, the pine forest in Kintamani, costs about Rp10,000 (roughly US$0.60) per person, and it opens daily 08:00-18:00 (Pos Bali, May 2025, and Bobobox, February 2026; checked October 2026). One outlet wrote Rp25,000 in 2024, so carry some extra cash and check the price board at the counter.
What you get
The forest sits on Jl. Manikliyu in Kintamani district, about 53 hectares inside the East Bali forest management unit (KPH Bali Timur), at roughly 1,200-1,300 m above sea level. According to detikBali, around 1920 the Dutch colonial government turned former settlements and fields here into protected forest to safeguard water catchment for Lake Batur; the pines standing today are the second generation. Among them is a pule tree that locals hold sacred.
The managers, the tourism group of Desa Adat Glagalinggah, have been adding facilities step by step: a coffee stall, a camping area, a suspension bridge, an ATV track and an open-air amphitheatre in use since late 2024. There is also a tree adoption programme; in February 2026 the Klungkung regency government planted trees here. The walking paths are gentle, so the main activities are easy strolls, picnics and photos.
When to go
Between 08:00 and 10:00 thin fog still hangs between the trunks, which is the look you see most on social media. Around 16:00 the low light is also good for photos. From November the rainy season brings thicker fog and slippery ground. If you want to arrive in the morning fog, a night in Kintamani with an AccessiaPass hotel voucher is far easier than leaving Kuta before dawn.
The downsides
- It is far: about 1.5-2.5 hours from Denpasar or the airport, depending on traffic.
- Beyond walking and photos, options are limited. Prices for ATV, camping and pre-wedding shoots are not published, so ask on site.
- It is cold and damp. Bring a jacket, especially in the morning.
- The ground is rooty and unpaved, not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers.
- Some visitor reviews mention litter; bins are few, so take your rubbish with you.
Getting there and practical info
- Location: View on Google Maps
- Route: via the Kintamani road or from Payangan in Gianyar. If you pass Penelokan there is a Kintamani tourist-area levy; Bangli regency trialled an online one-gate system in July-August 2026 and aims to apply it from October 2026 (detikBali).
- Booking: not needed for a normal visit, just pay at the counter. For camping or events in the amphitheatre, contact the managers on site.
