A glass of Es Waneng at Jalan Mawar No. 25, Tabanan, still costs Rp3,000 in 2026. The roasted-coconut-milk ice stall, founded in 1938, has also turned down a franchise offer, according to a tatkala.co report on 28 September 2026.

What has changed and what hasn't

Founder I Nengah Waneng started selling door to door with a shoulder pole in 1938, aged 18. Since 1998 the business has been run by his youngest daughter, Ni Nyoman Jumartini, now helped by her sons Wayan Eka and Kadek Sastrawan. Wayan Eka declined the franchise offer to protect his grandfather's legacy, so there are no official branches. The old carrying pole, bell and ice shaver are still kept at the stall.

Before you stop by

Price: Rp3,000 a glass; plain bread for dipping about Rp1,000 (Tabanan Update, March 2026); nasi jinggo and side dishes from Rp2,000.
Hours: 10:00-18:00 WITA daily, and it closes at 18:00 even if there is ice left.
Taste: the coconut is roasted before the milk is pressed, giving a smoky aroma, and it is sweetened with palm sugar and white sugar. Close to 600 glasses can sell in a day.
Downsides: it is sweet, so not ideal if you limit sugar. It is a small drinks stall, not a place for a full lunch. Online ratings are split too: about 4.7 on Google but 2.1 on RestaurantGuru.
