Amid Ubud's bustle, the Campuhan Ridge Walk is a soothing green escape — and completely free. The trail runs along a narrow grassy ridge between two rivers, offering wide tropical valley views with no trees blocking the way. Just a two-kilometre stroll one way and you already feel far from the traffic of Jalan Raya Ubud.
The Route and What You'll See
The most popular starting point is near Pura Gunung Lebah, right where two rivers meet (Campuhan means "two rivers join"). From there a paved path climbs gently to an open ridge covered in wild ilalang grass. Over roughly 2 km you pass green expanses, coconut palms, and a few rest huts. The trail ends in the Bangkiang Sidem area with a handful of cafes.
- Distance: about 2 km one way (4 km return), easy terrain.
- Duration: 45–90 relaxed minutes, depending on photo stops.
- Ticket: free, no entrance gate.
Best Time and Tips
The ridge is open with no shade, so come in the morning before 9 or after 4 pm when the air is cool and the light is golden. Midday is very hot. Sneakers are enough; flip-flops get slippery after rain as the paving can grow moss.
- Bring water — there are no vendors along the central stretch.
- Wear sunscreen and a hat for the open section.
- Motorbike parking is available near Pura Gunung Lebah.
Cafe at the End of the Trail
After the climb, reward yourself at a cafe around Bangkiang Sidem such as Karsa Kafe, overlooking rice fields and a lotus pond — an ideal spot for a young coconut or coffee while enjoying the view before walking back.
