Since the early 1990s, Cafe Batu Jimbar on Jalan Danau Tamblingan has worked as Sanur's shared living room. Part of the Batu Jimbar compound, it has lasted not by chasing trends but on one simple formula: a shaded open garden, bread baked in house, and a breakfast you are allowed to stretch over hours.
What to Order
- House bread and pastries — croissants, sourdough and cakes in the front display case
- Egg breakfasts — poached eggs and the crab omelette that became the house signature
- Indonesian plates — nasi goreng, rice porridge, gado-gado and nasi campur
- Fresh juices and smoothies made from local tropical fruit
Budget roughly Rp60,000–150,000 per person for one dish plus a drink. Note that tax and service of around 15% are added to the bill.
The Garden and the Weekend Market
The seating stretches back into an open garden with big shade trees and well-spaced tables — good for reading, long conversations, or easy laptop work. On weekends, especially Sunday morning, the grounds usually host an organic and craft market known as the Sunday Market Batu Jimbar: organic vegetables, honey, soap, coffee and woven textiles.
Best Times to Arrive
- 7–9am on weekdays: quietest, with bread just out of the kitchen
- 9.30–11.30am: comfortable for relaxed work over a long breakfast
- Sunday morning: busiest thanks to the market — arrive before 9am if you want a garden table
