Afternoon Route to Kelating Beach, Tabanan, from Canggu or Denpasar

Kelating Beach, in Kelating village, Kerambitan District, Tabanan, is roughly a 1-1.5 hour drive from Canggu or Denpasar, depending on traffic in Kediri. The black-sand beach draws local visitors and a few foreign tourists. In September 2026 Tabanan's deputy regent named it alongside Pasut, Yeh Gangga and Soka as beaches encouraged to hold their own festivals (detikBali). The route below is built for the afternoon, because midday on black sand is too hot.

The schedule

• 14.00 leave Canggu, or 14.15 from Denpasar. From Canggu go via Kediri and Pejaten. From Denpasar take the Denpasar-Gilimanuk road and turn south at Kerambitan. Leaving later than this means hitting rush hour in Kediri.
• 15.15-15.30 arrive in Kelating. The access road runs through the village and rice fields. Park at the end of the road near the beach.
• 15.30-17.00 walk the sand and the river mouths. Two rivers, Tukad Yeh Abe and Tukad Yeh Lating, reach the sea around here.
• 17.00 move to Pasut Beach, the black-sand neighbour to the west, for sunset at about 18.10 in mid-October.
• 18.40 head back. Village roads are dark at night, so make sure your headlight is strong.

A variation if you start from Denpasar: the road to the beach passes through Kerambitan town, so you can leave at 13.15 and spend 30-45 minutes at Puri Anyar Kerambitan, a palace still lived in by a noble family. From there Kelating is about 15 minutes. On Sundays and school holidays the village road is busier with local motorbikes heading to the beach too.

Before you go near the water

Do not swim. Since May 2023 Kerambitan police and villagers have had no-swimming signs along the whole beach. The police chief said the sea often looks calm, but big waves arrive suddenly. Two foreigners nearly drowned and were saved by locals. The sources we found give no sign that the ban has been lifted.

Another downside: wood and branches from the river mouths often pile up, especially after heavy rain. In February 2026 police and villagers held a clean-up after the President criticised rubbish in Bali. In the rainy season (November-March), expect a messier beach.

Kelating and Soori Bali

Part of this shoreline is used by the Soori Bali resort. The beach itself is still public and reached by the village road. You do not need to go through the resort.

• Entry and parking: no official rate is published (checked October 2026). Bring small notes for parking or a village donation.
• Facilities: we found no reliable information on toilets or warungs being open, so bring your own water.
• Good for: afternoon walks, photos, shore fishing. Not great for families who want kids to play in the water.
