Klungkung Heritage Festival 2026: 10-11 October Dates & Visitor Tips

Klungkung Heritage Festival 2026 is scheduled for Saturday-Sunday, 10-11 October 2026, in central Semarapura. The date is listed in the Bali Calendar of Events 2026, launched by the Bali Provincial Tourism Office on 13 January 2026. As of late September 2026 the official 2026 rundown has not been published, so the details below draw on the 2025 edition, which ran on the same dates.

What happened last year

The 2025 edition centred on the area in front of the Ida Dewa Agung Jambe Monument and the surrounding town square, themed around the legacy of the Klungkung Kingdom. The programme included a royal costume parade, rejang rentet dance, gebogan offerings on silver trays, baris pertiwa, a dance drama, an afternoon barong ngelawang parade, a craft and keris exhibition at the Klungkung Museum, cultural talks and local bands at night. Food stalls sold dishes such as serombotan, tipat sate and babi guling.

The festival is deliberately linked to Kerta Gosa, Puri Agung Klungkung and Kamasan village, so one trip can cover all three. On the same weekend Karangasem hosts the Gebug Seraya Festival (10-12 October 2026); if you want to see the Gebug Ende rattan duel, it is about an hour further east.

Plan for the day

• Getting there: about 1 hour from Sanur via Jalan Prof. Ida Bagus Mantra when traffic is light. From Ubud it takes roughly the same via Gianyar. The east coast road often clogs on weekend afternoons.
• Arrival time: come before lunch. That leaves time to visit Kerta Gosa, eat at the food stalls and find a spot at the edge of the square before the afternoon barong parade.
• Parking: the nearest lots are around Kerta Gosa and Pasar Semarapura. During parades, vehicle access around the square may be restricted, so expect to walk a few hundred metres.
• Dress: modest clothing covering shoulders and knees. If you plan to enter a temple or palace area, bring your own sarong and sash.
• Etiquette: do not cut through the parade line or stand in front of dancers for photos. Ask before photographing participants up close, and do not fly a drone without the organisers' permission.

What is still unconfirmed

Event times, stage locations and road closures for 2026 have not been announced. The provincial calendar is compiled early in the year and some other festivals have shifted from it before, so re-check a week ahead via an Instagram search or the Klungkung Regency channels. Most events are outdoors, so midday is hot and seating is not guaranteed. This is not the event for anyone wanting a ticketed show with a strict schedule; stage commentary is mostly in Indonesian and Balinese.

Location and where to stay

• Meeting point: Klungkung Puputan Monument on Google Maps, opposite Kerta Gosa.
• Tickets: no ticket information yet for 2026; the 2025 edition took place in public spaces.

Semarapura has few hotels, so most visitors come from Sanur or Ubud. Another option is to spend the night in Sidemen, about 30 minutes north. If you would rather wake up close by and set off early, look for a stay voucher in Sidemen or Candidasa on AccessiaPass.

One last tip: bring small cash notes for the food and craft stalls, as not every small vendor takes digital payment.
