Jembatan Tukad Bangkung in Pelaga village, Petang district, Badung, is far more than a road link. With piers rising about 71 metres and a span of roughly 360 metres, the bridge opened in 2006 is the tallest in Bali and is often cited among the tallest in Southeast Asia. From the deck, green valleys, forest and the highland orange groves of Badung stretch out like a painting.
Getting There
- From Ubud: about 1 to 1.5 hours via Payangan towards Petang.
- From Denpasar: about 1.5–2 hours north through Sangeh and Petang.
- It sits on the Pelaga–Kintamani route, easy to pair with Nungnung Waterfall or the Petang coffee gardens.
- The road climbs and twists; small scooters are best avoided in the rain.
Best Time and Cost
Come between sunrise and 9am, when thin mist still hangs in the valley — the most dramatic light for photos. Late afternoon towards 5pm is lovely too, though heavy cloud can close in. There is no ticket booth and no entrance fee; just keep IDR 2,000–5,000 for parking or a voluntary donation at the nearby warung.
Safety Tips
- This is an active public road: trucks and buses pass, so always walk on the pedestrian side.
- Do not park on the bridge deck. Use the shoulder or the warung at either end, then walk.
- Wind at height is strong and the air is cool; bring a light jacket.
- Grip your phone and hat firmly when shooting from the edge.
- Carry cash; signal and ATMs are limited up here.
