Handara Gate Bedugul: The Iconic Candi Bentar Photo Spot in the Highlands

Handara Gate is a classic Balinese candi bentar (split gate) standing at the entrance of Handara Golf & Resort in Pancasari village, Bedugul, North Bali. This carved stone gate is one of the most viral photo spots in Bali, framed by green trees and mountain mist behind it. Couples, families, and travelers come specifically to capture the iconic shot here before continuing to Lake Beratan or the botanical garden.

What You Can Enjoy

The main draw is clearly the grand, symmetrical gate. The cool highland air (around 1,200 m above sea level) makes the atmosphere feel fresh and dramatic, especially when thin mist rolls in during the morning.

Important Things to Know

Keep in mind that this gate is private resort property, not a public attraction, so there is a photo fee managed by the resort. The "floating staircase" effect often seen in photos is simply a camera-angle illusion — the steps do not actually float. Because it is popular, there are often queues, so arriving early is highly recommended.
