Can Tourists Buy Pertalite in Bali? Fuel Prices October 2026

Yes. No rule stops tourists, foreign or Indonesian, from buying Pertalite at a Bali petrol station, and for a motorbike you need no QR code at all. As of 1 October 2026 Pertalite in Bali costs Rp10,000 per litre, unchanged from September, and the government has said subsidised fuel will not rise before the end of 2026. All prices below were checked on 9 October 2026 against Pertamina's Java-Bali price list as reported by national media (Investortrust, Journal Arta).

What does fuel cost at Pertamina stations in Bali in October 2026?

  • Pertalite (RON 90, subsidised): Rp10,000/litre
  • Pertamax (RON 92): Rp15,950/litre
  • Pertamax Green 95: Rp19,150/litre
  • Pertamax Turbo (RON 98): Rp19,600/litre
  • Biosolar (subsidised diesel): Rp6,800/litre
  • Dexlite: Rp23,700/litre
  • Pertamina Dex: Rp25,200/litre

Bali sits in the same 5% regional fuel-tax band as Java, so prices match Jakarta or Surabaya. Pertamax Turbo, Dexlite and Dex went up on 1 September 2026, while Pertamax stayed at Rp15,950. Non-subsidised prices can change at the start of any month, so check the fuel-price menu in the MyPertamina app or the board at the station before budgeting.

Do tourists need a QR code to buy Pertalite?

Not on a motorbike. In Bali, Pertamina's Subsidi Tepat QR code for Pertalite is required only for four-wheeled vehicles. The code is registered to the car's number plate and its owner (ID card, registration papers, photos of the car), not to whoever is driving.

If you rent a self-drive car and want Pertalite, ask the rental owner whether the car has a Subsidi Tepat QR code. It is usually a printout kept on the dashboard. Without it, the attendant will point you to Pertamax. If you hire a car with a driver, fuel is the driver's job and is normally built into the daily rate.

Pertalite or Pertamax for a rented scooter?

The automatic scooters most commonly rented in Bali (Scoopy, Vario, Beat and similar) run fine on Pertalite. Some rental shops ask for Pertamax in an NMAX, PCX or newer bike. Check the sticker near the fuel cap or ask at handover. One thing people miss: rental bikes are usually handed over with very little fuel, so fill up at the first station you pass.

Petrol station or bottled fuel at the roadside?

The station is cheaper and the measure is accurate. Bottled fuel in old drink bottles and the small "Pertamini" pumps sell above the official price, a bottle often holds less than a litre, and you cannot be sure whether it is Pertalite, Pertamax or a mix. Use roadside fuel only in an emergency, for example on village roads in Karangasem or on Nusa Penida far from a station, and ask the price per bottle before they pour.

There is also Pertashop, an official Pertamina kiosk in villages that sells Pertamax at the official price. It is safer than bottles, though stock sometimes runs out by late afternoon.

How do you fill up without misunderstandings?

  • Say the type and amount: "Pertalite, full" or "Pertalite, twenty thousand". Attendants fill by rupiah amount.
  • Make sure the meter starts at zero. Attendants usually say "mulai dari nol" (starting from zero).
  • Pay cash, QRIS or card. Not every station accepts foreign cards, so carry small notes.
  • Bikes and cars use separate lanes. Around 17.00-19.00, stations on the By Pass Ngurah Rai and in Canggu often have long queues.
  • Get off the bike while it is filled, do not smoke, and do not take calls next to the pump.

How much does fuel for a rented scooter cost per day?

A 110-125 cc automatic scooter usually does about 40-50 km per litre in Bali traffic. Rough figures at October 2026 prices:

  • Easy day around your hotel (20-30 km): under 1 litre, about Rp5,000-8,000 of Pertalite.
  • Canggu to Uluwatu and back (60-70 km): about 1.5 litres, Rp15,000 of Pertalite or Rp24,000 of Pertamax.
  • Ubud to Kintamani and back (70-80 km, uphill): about 2 litres, Rp20,000 of Pertalite or Rp32,000 of Pertamax.
  • Full tank on a 4-5.5 litre scooter: Rp40,000-55,000 of Pertalite.

Fuel is almost always the smallest cost compared with the rental itself. Compare current rates in how much scooter rental costs per day in Bali.

What causes more trouble than fuel?

Licences and helmets. Police checks in Bali target international driving permits and helmets, not the fuel in your tank. Read Bali's scooter rental and riding rules before you take the keys. On price, the benchmark is simple: the official figure is on the station board, and if a bottle seller asks far more than that, you are free to say no and ride on to the next station.
