How Much Does Laundry Cost in Bali per Kilo?

Pay-by-the-kilo laundry in Bali usually costs Rp8,000-25,000 per kg, including washing, drying and folding. Kuta and Legian are cheapest, Seminyak and Sanur the most expensive. Same-day express service is typically Rp35,000-50,000 per kg, while hotel laundry is charged per piece at around Rp20,000-50,000 per item. These ranges were checked in October 2026 against laundry providers' own price lists and Bali cost guides published in 2025-2026.

Price per kilo by area

  • Kuta and Legian: Rp8,000-12,000 per kg. There are plenty of laundry kiosks in the lanes around Poppies and Jalan Legian.
  • Canggu and Ubud: Rp12,000-18,000 per kg in the busy tourist strips. In Ubud, kiosks a little out of the centre are often cheaper.
  • Seminyak and Sanur: Rp15,000-25,000 per kg.
  • Premium pick-up and delivery: from about Rp20,000 per kg for 2 days, Rp35,000 per kg for next day and Rp50,000 per kg for 7-hour service (per Bali Express Laundry Service's price list). Another pick-up service starts at Rp35,000 per kg.

Almost every kiosk has a 1-3 kg minimum. One T-shirt and two pairs of shorts still get charged as 2 kg, so save up 2-3 days of laundry first.

By-the-kilo, express or hotel: which suits whom?

Regular by-the-kilo (1-2 days). Cheapest for T-shirts, shorts, swimwear and beach towels. Your clothes are usually washed with other customers' using the same detergent and fragrance. Less suited to linen, silk or anything likely to bleed colour.

Express (same day). Useful before changing hotels or flying out. Drop off before noon and many kiosks will have it ready that afternoon or evening. It costs 2-3 times the regular rate.

Hotel laundry. Convenient, since you just fill the bag in the wardrobe, but it is priced per piece. A T-shirt is Rp20,000-30,000, trousers or a dress can be Rp40,000-50,000, and five-star hotel lists can go higher still. A bag of 10 items can cost as much as 10-20 kg at a kiosk. Check whether the rates include tax and service; extras like this are covered in Bali's hidden hotel costs.

The verdict: for a one-week holiday, a regular by-the-kilo kiosk near where you stay is almost always the best answer. Use express only when you are short on time, and keep hotel laundry for the one or two shirts that need a proper press.

Common complaints

  • Mixed up or lost items. Socks and underwear go missing most often. Count the pieces when you drop off, get a receipt and use a bag you will recognise.
  • Fading and shrinking. Hot dryers shrink cotton and linen. Keep whites apart from new coloured clothes and ask for certain items to be line-dried.
  • Overpowering fragrance. Most kiosks use strong scent. If you are sensitive, ask for "tanpa pewangi" (no fragrance) at drop-off.
  • Rainy season. Between November and March laundry can be a day late if the kiosk relies on sun-drying.

Tips to avoid losing out

  • Ask whether ironing is included. Some kiosks only wash, dry and fold, with ironing charged separately.
  • Ask for a re-weigh if the figure looks odd. The scale is usually on the front counter and you can see the reading.
  • Keep valuables out and empty your pockets. Rupiah notes and villa key cards often go through the wash.
  • Read recent Google Maps reviews for kiosks near you and look for comments about missing items or delays.

If you are staying a month or more, many kiosks offer a regular-customer rate, and monthly villas sometimes have their own washing machine. Monthly living costs like these are covered in our Bali guide for digital nomads. For a short trip, just look for a kiosk that writes its per-kg price on the board out front: a clearly posted price usually means you will not be charged more when you collect.
