How Much Is Excess Baggage From Bali? Fees by Airline

Excess baggage fees out of Bali's Ngurah Rai Airport come down to two things: whether the airline charges per kilogram or per bag, and whether you prepay online or pay at the check-in counter. The counter is almost always dearer. The figures below are only those we could trace to the airline or to 2025-2026 reporting, checked 19 October 2026. Where we found nothing, we say so.

Per kg, per 5 kg, or per bag?

• Per kilogram: Lion Air Group (Lion, Batik, Wings), Jetstar at the airport, Scoot, and Qantas on Australia-Asia routes.
• Per 5 kg block: Singapore Airlines on weight-concept routes such as Denpasar-Singapore, and older Garuda tickets still on the weight system.
• Per bag: Garuda Indonesia for tickets issued from 1 September 2026.

Fees by airline

Garuda Indonesia. Tickets issued from 1 September 2026 use the piece concept: domestic economy gets 1 bag up to 23 kg, international economy 2 bags of 23 kg each (Bisnis.com July 2026, GNFI 1 September 2026). The domestic allowance cannot be split across two bags. Economy bags of 23-32 kg can reportedly be paid as a Heavy Bag at the airport Excess Baggage counter. For older weight-concept tickets, one July 2026 media report put excess at per-5 kg rates of Rp200-400k domestic and Rp500-700k international, depending on zone. We found no official fee table for extra bags under the new system.

Lion Air and Wings Air. Lion Air tickets bought from 17 July 2025 include 10 kg free on all routes (Kontan). Prepaid baggage is sold in 5-30 kg packages on the website or app, up to 6 hours before departure. The per-kg rate varies by route, and we found no official 2025-2026 list for Denpasar routes. For Wings Air we found no recent data at all.

Batik Air. Economy usually gets 20 kg; confirm on your e-ticket. Batik Air's price list dated 15 July 2026, which we cited when writing our bike baggage article, shows Jakarta-Denpasar excess at Rp68,000/kg at the airport and Rp47,000/kg prepaid. Other routes differ.

Citilink. The free allowance on domestic A320 flights went back to 15 kg from 5 March 2026, after a planned cut to 10 kg was cancelled (Bisnis.com, 5 March 2026). We found no 2026 source for Citilink's per-kg excess rate. Cabin bags over 7 kg that have to be checked at the gate are reported to cost about Rp350k per bag.

AirAsia. We found no official per-kg excess rate for the Denpasar counter. Figures on travel blogs vary widely and are quoted in ringgit, so we have not used them. Every source agrees on one thing: baggage bought at booking is far cheaper than at the airport.

Jetstar. Jetstar's help page lists an airport excess fee of Rp305,000 per kg for Jetstar Airways (JQ) international flights, without stating the departure market. It applies per kg above the allowance you already bought. Note that Jetstar Asia (code 3K) ceased operations on 31 July 2025, so Bali-Singapore tickets under that code no longer exist.

Qantas. International economy outside the Americas usually includes 30 kg, with a 32 kg limit per bag. Qantas pages for Australia-Asia routes give airport excess of A$35-37 per kg; two regional versions show different figures, one noting a price rise on 9 June 2026. Buying extra through Manage Booking is cheaper.

Singapore Airlines and Scoot. Singapore Airlines sells additional baggage in 5 kg blocks, up to 100 kg per flight. The discount is 25% if bought more than 48 hours before departure and 10% between 48 and 6 hours before; inside 6 hours it is sold per 1 kg. For Scoot, the widely quoted policy is S$20 per kg at the airport on flights under 5 hours (Denpasar-Singapore is about 2.5 hours), paid in local currency. We could not open Scoot's official page when checking, so confirm in the app.

How to pay less

• Weigh your bag before the airport. Ask hotel reception for a scale, or pack a digital luggage scale from home.
• Buy extra online, not at the counter. Lion Air Group closes prepaid baggage 6 hours before departure; Singapore Airlines gives its biggest discount more than 48 hours out.
• Match the system. On per-bag Garuda domestic, one 23 kg bag is safer than two light ones. On per-kg airlines, only total weight counts.
• Use your cabin bag, but stay under the limit. Most airlines cap it at 7 kg, and an overweight cabin bag can be forced into the hold at a higher rate. Check the cabin liquid rules before moving bottles of souvenirs into it.
• Read the e-ticket. Your allowance is what the e-ticket says, not what the airline's ads say.

If the counter agent quotes a figure far from the ranges above, ask for the breakdown (recorded weight and per-kg rate) before you pay. Weight or route entry mistakes do happen, and they are easier to fix before the transaction closes.
