Left Something in a Grab or Gojek in Bali? How to Get It Back

Open the app within hours, not days. Grab asks you to report a left-behind item no later than 48 hours after you notice it is missing, while Gojek keeps items handed over by drivers for 30 calendar days (3 days for food and perishables). The sooner you reach the driver, the better the chance your item is still in the car or on the bike.

Step 1: check your trip history and contact the driver

  • Open your trip history (History/Activity) and select the right ride. Note the driver's name, plate number, pick-up time and drop-off point.
  • Within 48 hours, Grab lets you contact the driver directly through History, according to Grab Indonesia's official page on lost items.
  • Send a short, clear message: what the item is, its colour, which seat, plus a photo if you have one. Many Bali drivers understand basic English, but simple sentences get understood faster.

Step 2: file an official report in the app

Grab: Account, then Help Centre, then Report a Problem, choose the trip and the lost item option. The driver gets a notification from Grab's team, and Grab contacts you once the driver responds. Menu names may differ slightly in the latest app version.

Gojek: according to the GoCar and GoRide help page "Barang saya tertinggal" (checked October 2026), open My Profile, then Help, then Contact Us. This button only works on a phone or tablet. Gojek helps confirm the item with the driver; the driver must hand it to Gojek before you can collect it. The collection deadline is 30 calendar days for phones, bags, clothing and similar items, and 3 calendar days for food, drinks and groceries. After that, the item becomes Gojek's property.

An official report matters even if the driver has already replied to your chat, because it creates a record in case of a dispute later.

Step 3: agree on the handover and the cost

Neither Grab's nor Gojek's help pages list an official fee for returning a lost item. In practice you have three options:

  • Meet at an agreed point, such as your hotel lobby or the nearest police post.
  • The driver brings it to your hotel and you cover fuel or a fee as agreed. Settle the amount in the chat before the driver sets off.
  • The item is sent by GoSend or GrabExpress, with you as the person ordering and paying.

Watch for one scam pattern: someone claiming to have found your item and asking for a "reward" transfer or a large fee upfront. Contact the driver only through the app, pay after you see the item, and report any odd request to the app.

If the thing you left is your phone

  • Call your own number from a friend's phone or the hotel phone. Drivers often pick up.
  • Ask your hotel front desk or a friend to contact the app's customer service on your behalf with the trip details.
  • Secure your account and the cards saved in the app. Gojek has a dedicated help page on securing debit and credit cards if your phone is lost.
  • Turn on remote tracking and locking (Find My iPhone, or Find My Device on Android).

Bluebird taxis

Bluebird (known in Bali as the blue Bali Taxi) takes reports through the MyBluebird app and its official WhatsApp channel. If you hailed a taxi on the street and do not remember the fleet number, Bluebird has explained that the pick-up time and location are enough to trace the vehicle, as its fleet is GPS-equipped. According to Bisnis.com (September 2024), more than 13,000 items left in Bluebird Group vehicles during 2024 were returned to their owners. Keep your receipt or a screenshot of the booking; the taxi number is usually on it.

I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport

  • Left in the terminal (toilet, waiting seats, trolley): go to the information desk or Lost & Found in the same terminal, or ask information staff to connect you. The airport is run by InJourney Airports (formerly Angkasa Pura I). We do not list a phone number because we could not find an official one we could verify; use the channels on InJourney Airports' official website or social media.
  • Left on the plane: contact your airline or its ground handling agent, not the airport operator.
  • Checked bag missing or damaged: that is a separate process, see how to claim for lost or damaged baggage in Bali.

Step 4: if the item does not come back, get a police report

Travel insurers almost always ask for a police loss report. Get one at the nearest Polsek or Polres, bringing your passport, proof of the trip from the app (a screenshot of your history), and a list of items with estimated values. The process, including what to include so insurers accept it, is covered in lost or stolen items in Bali: how to report to police for insurance. If what you lost is your passport, the steps are different because the embassy and immigration are involved.

The habit that prevents all of this: before you get out, run through "phone, wallet, glasses, bag" while glancing at the back seat, and use the share-trip feature so a friend or your hotel has the plate number on record if something gets left behind.
