Pura Ulun Danu Batur: The Grand Temple Above Lake Batur, Kintamani

On the Kintamani highlands, in the village of Kalanganyar, stands Pura Ulun Danu Batur — one of the most important temples in Bali, second only to Pura Besakih. It is dedicated to Dewi Danu, the goddess of water, lakes, and fertility who irrigates rice fields across the island. History and Meaning

The temple originally sat on the shore of Lake Batur inside the caldera. After Mount Batur's eruption in 1926, the main complex was moved to the higher, safer caldera rim. For the Balinese, Dewi Danu maintains the balance of the traditional subak irrigation system, making this temple a spiritual center for farmers.
